"Chef" looks to whip up a tasty opening weekend as Open Road's Jon Favreau's Tribeca fave opens 6 runs in New York and Los Angeles this Friday before a month-long May rollout.  The film also stars Sofia Vergara, Scarlett Johansson, Dustin Hoffman, John Leguizamo and Robert Downey Jr.

Magnolia offers up a pair of openers with the already-on-VOD "Stage Fright" a horror comedy with Meat Loaf and Minnie Driver and "The Double" from British director Richard Ayoade, starring Jesse Eisenberg as a mild mannered government employee whose exact double enters his life and proceeds to wreak havoc. Mia Wasikowska co-stars. The film will also be offered on VOD

The late great Philip Seymour Hoffman headlines "Mad Men"' star John Slattery's drama "God's Pocket" from IFC.  The film also stars John Turturro, Richard Jenkins and Christina Hendricks.  The film comes to VOD on May 14th.

Gia Coppola's "Palo Alto" with Emma Roberts and James Franco gets a limited release this week.  The film focuses on the relationship between high school soccer player (Roberts) and her coach (Franco), as well as with the peril of high school love and friendships.

I doubt many large popcorn and tankard size sodas will be consumed during showings of "Fed Up", the new documentary on the American Food Industry from Stephanie Soechtig, narrated by Katie Couric,

Finally, "Belle", which got off to a wonderful start this past weekend ($104,000/$26,000 PSA), adds 35 runs in Atlanta, Boston, Washington DC, New York, Philadelphia, Toronto, Chicago, Dallas, Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco.  The film expands to 100-150 runs the following week for Fox Searchlight.
