Spectacular Now

A quick peek at this week's ITunes Top 15 VOD films provides a very interesting look at how indie films mine most of their revenues from this platform and how a successful young adult offering can whip 13 year-olds into a VOD frenzy.  Granted, this list is just for films available on ITunes but that's a vast majority of them and the list is interesting more for conveying the KIND of films that play well on VOD rather than the exact titles.

"Divergent" again sits atop the ITunes Top 15 and I had to consult my handy dandy IMDB to remember what the #3 VOD film on the list was.  It's "The Spectacular Now", yet another Shailene Woodley film (aha!), which has received a huge jolt form the VOD success of "Divergent".

Palo Alto

Elsewhere, indie titles like "Snowpiercer" and Gia Coppola's "Palo Alto", whose release plans relied heavily on VOD, are still in the top 15.  Also noteworthy are films that have a faith based slant to them such as "God's Not Dead", "Noah" and "Heaven Is For Real", all of which are in the top 15.  Jason Bateman's "Bad Words" was a dud at the box office but is enjoying a second chance on VOD.
