Announcing a second deal in less than 24 hours, The Weinstein Company is making its presence known in Cannes. The Weinsteins have nabbed the $40 million production, "Stormbreaker," to be directed by Geoffrey Sax, making it the first acquisition of a new production for the company.
"Stormbreaker" is the screen debut of special agent Alex Rider, the hero of Anthony Horowitz's novels, in the words of an announcement, "about a reluctant teenage superspy." The search for an actor is underway.
The film will be produced by Marc Samuelson and Peter Samuelson, also producing is Steve Christian of Isle of Man Film (who have financed the development of the prioject) and Andy Grosch of VIP Medienfonds 4.
