"Last Days" star Michael Pitt showed off his other talent as a lead singer/guitarist during the party for the film in Cannes Friday night following the gala premiere (with actor Ryan Donowho on drums). Party attendees, including Sonic Youth's Thurston Moore and Kim Gordon (who also stars in the film) bobbed to the grungesque set, including Pitt's "Birth to Death," which he wrote and is also featured in the film. Also in attendance was "Last Days" director Gus Van Sant, who kind of hung low at the party. He's not quite the attention whore...

Hanging as well at the party was uber D.P. Christopher Doyle ("2046"), who, after we asked him for a picture, took us to meet who he called, "the future of Chinese cinema" (more on that later in iPOP this week). Among tonight's (Saturday) plethora of parties are separate events for the Los Angeles Film Festival and the Sarasota Film Festival (the Sarasota people really know how to live by the way, with one of the biggest yachts anchored offshore their temporary home away from home). Also tonight is the big MTV bash which will be held at some -- apparently -- fabulous villa in the hills. The party starts at 10:30pm and continues, according to the hard to come by invitations, until dawn. Whoo-hoo! (Stay tuned to more "Morning After" columns all this week from Cannes -- hopefully sans hangover and not quite in the morning.]
