The Morning After: The Focus Features party and several we missed

Monday night was definitely a promising one party-wise. There was a New Line event in the early evening for "The History of Violence" and there was a Brazilian bash at a villa in the hills (for the film Cidade Baixa) in addition to another villa party for German Cinema. Alas, we headed over to the hotel to drop off computers, and fell asleep, awaking at 10:30 p.m. and -- gasp! It screwed our night. Well, not screwed exactly, but our ambitious party plans were altered.

So, we headed out to the Focus Features party at Baoli -- the same venue as the previous night's "Star Wars" premiere party -- since it had just started. The party was pretty fun, with a good number of friends from the New York film world as well as some from L.A. types hanging out, including the folks from "Transamerica," Bird Runningwater from Sundance, as well as the Focus group. Director Jim Jarmusch, in Cannes for his film, "Broken Flowers," chatted away with actors Tilda Swinton and Bill Murray.

At first, we were stopped from going in with our camera, but Focus PR exec Donna Dickman gave the final OK. We tried to get Jarmusch, but he exited just as I was trying to trek him down. Not all was lost though, our friend, former U.A. exec. Jack Turner (in the picture above on the right) was chatting with friend, Matt Dillon, who is in town for his role in "Factotum," by Bent Hamer (middle), which is screening in the festival's Directors Fortnight section.

Tonight (Tuesday), we're not sure what we're going to do party-wise. The invitations have dried up a bit, so we'll see how that bodes for tomorrow's Morning After report. God bless and cheers...
