In the Cannes competition, for this sixth time, this year with "Three Times", filmmaker Hou Hsiao Hsien explained that the English translation of his new film's title is a bit misleading. Dubbed "Three Times" here, the Chinese title for the movie is "The Best Moments," or as Hou explained (in Mandarin, translated to English from French), "The best instances of your life."

"My best moments belong to the past and you cant re-live them," Hou said this morning, "The only way to do this is that you have to look into your memories and you can then keep them." He explores such ideas with a film that takes place during three different periods of time: In part one, set in the 1960s, Hou explained that the important thing is memory, "for me, this corresponds to my own personal memories." While in the part of the film set in 1911, its about "the quest for the best moments," while in the section set today, its about "keeping the best moments in the present."

"The is no one person that was better for me," said Hou Hsiao Hsien. "These were the moments I wanted to talk about."
