I’m devoted to House, but it’s no Singing Detective, even when a special Stunt Episode has Hugh Laurie in top hat and eye liner singing “Get Happy” with a chorus line of garishly made-up docs and nurses. Like most over-produced musical scenes – and it was a fairly short scene – this one took itself too seriously. Throughout last night’s episode of movie and TV parodies, the lighter the touch, the better.

One thing is certain about Jane Eyre's Mr Rochester: he was no dreamboat. Try telling that to the people who cast Michael Fassbender as Rochester to Mia Wasikowska’s Jane in the new version arriving Friday.

It’s a medically-induced movie dream: in tonight’s episode of the strong-as-ever House (after a rocky start this season), Cuddy becomes a patient, and under the influence of who knows what hallucinates the cast into a series of films, including eveyone’s favorite, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. This behind-the-scenes interview with Hugh Laurie and producer Greg Yaitanes offers a glimpse of the perfectly-detailed set.

It took less than a week for Charlie Sheen to cross over from out-of-control wild man to calculating performance artist – but unlike most people self-consciously playing themselves, Sheen’s act didn’t start out that way.

The Miley Cyrus Show, with Vanessa Bayer playing a babbling, "Pretty Cool"-spouting Miley, has been a highlight of Saturday Night Live's season. So when Cyrus hosted last night you might have expected dueling Mileys. Instead, she played that calculating kid - even his winks are planned - Justin Bieber.

Movies are meant to enchant us and Catherine Breillat’s visually stunning The Sleeping Beauty does that and more. Like her recent Bluebeard, this is a thinking woman’s fairy tale, in which Breillat explores the sexual awakening of girls, and the meaning of class and gender, revising the familiar stories while keeping their enrapturing charm.

Fairy tales for grownups are everywhere, fraught with love, sex and menace. Catherine Hardwicke’s Red Riding Hood, wonderfully cast with Amanda Seyfried and Gary Oldman, arrives next week. Catherine Breillat's smart revision of Sleeping Beauty opens in July. (Here's my review from the French film festival.)

Charlie Sheen mashups have been almost as inescapable as his interviews, but only Jimmy Kimmel Live! had the wit to put audio from his interview with ABC's Andrea Canning into Dr. Seuss's The Cat in the Hat.
