Late Night with Seth Meyers was the most self-assured late-night debut in memory, and Meyers is an ideal host, with a sharply satirical wit yet plenty of personal warmth.

Stefon -- the guide to New York's hottest, most twisted clubs - was never my favorite Bill Hader character, but he grew on me. And since last night's SNL was Hader's last, it was inevitable that Stefon would pop up on Weekend Update. But who could have guessed that, tired of his unrequited love for Seth Meyers, Stefon would leave to marry another man, only to have Meyers run after him like Dustin Hoffman in The Graduate? Take a look at Stefon's big wedding, with Amy Poehler and Anderson Cooper.

“Rejected Pitches,” the on-line comedy series that plays out typical Hollywood rejections of very successful films, takes on this year’s crop of Oscar nominees with some priceless responses to Silver Linings Playbook, Argo and Beasts of the Southern Wild: “I love Hushpuppy – she’s so sassy! Everything else can go.”

Justin Bieber Hosts SNL; Watch the Unaired Non-Bieber Sketch Instead

Last night’s 'SNL' host was Justin .. . oh, how I wish I could say Timberlake, but No. It was Bieber, set loose among squealing audience members and a flood of predictable Bieber jokes. He wasn’t much as a comic, but he did go along wih a lot of Bieber-Playing-A-Dumb-Guy sketches. None of them mentioned the unfortunate Instagram he had posted the day before of himself with SNL's all-powerful Lorne Michaels, which Bieber spelled Lauren. (Some generous people on Twitter blamed Autocorrect; maybe.)

Last night in Part 2 of Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Downton Abbey’ parody, ‘Downton Sixbey,’  Lady Hedith – the incomparable and lovely Fred Armisen --  repsonded to a declaration of love and a marriage proposal from Downton’s heir, Lord Questlove. Their parents, including Fallon as the Earl of Downton Sixbey and Whoopi Goldberg as Lady Whoopi  had something to say about that.

Jimmy Fallon calls it 'Downton Sixbey' (in honor of his studio, 6B). I think of it as'Keeping Up With The Granthams' (hoping for the spinoff,' Lady Hedith and the Dowager Take Miami'). But whatever you call it, the 'Late Night' satire is a howling spoof of 'Downton Abbey'. Picking up on this season’s Downton plot, here the Earl of Sixbey reveals how he has lost the family fortune (it was not investing in a railroad).

I wonder how this will play outside New York and New Jersey, but if you’ve been watching Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s press briefings you know that his sign language interpreter has become a minor celebrity. SNL’s cold open did a brilliant take on Bloomberg and New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, along with their interpreters, at press conferences.

It’s a good thing SNL had the presidential debate as fodder, because they absolutely wasted Daniel Craig. And while Jay Pharoah continues to struggle with his Obama impression (why the grimace? Obama doesn’t channel Denzel Washington) the sketches included a very funny, perfectly–targeted recreation of MSNBC’s post-debate coverage: the horror, the excuses, the Chris Matthews hysteria.

Daniel Craig was game as host of SNL, but he was seriously underused and put into some of the worst-written sketches in recent memory, including an excruciatingly long one in which he was a construction worker with a mangled vocabulary of cat calls. He had better material – but not much more to do – in a Bond sketech; he was there, after all, to promote Skyfall.

The best SNL political impersonations capture some essential truth about that person’s character, hilariously exaggerated: Darrell Hammond’s gleeful, hound dog Clinton, Will Ferrell’s squinty-eyed doofus W. spouting words like “strategery.” Fred Armisen’s Obama never managed that, and so this season he literally handed the role off to Jay Pharoah. In the opening sketch, Armisen’s character introduced the president with “Wouldn’t want his job, right?” – an edgy reference to being replaced but probably better than ignoring it. And Pharoah’s Obama? So far, a little skimpy, but he seems to be shaping up as a guy who may be too cool for his own good, saying “I’m not worried. I should be,” which at least makes him a caricature with a point rather than an bland impression.
