After the success of his hilarious all-star fake trailer, Movie: The Movie, which premiered after last year’s Oscars -- and has been viewed over 20 million times on YouTube alone, more than 30 million overall -- Jimmy Kimmel has come back with a follow-up. As he says, "When you have a big success in Hollywood, there's only one reasonable thing you can do: cheapen it with a sequel.”

When I asked Jamie Foxx and Kerry Washington if they had refused anything that director Quentin Tarantino asked them to do or say in Django Unchained – you can imagine that these very smart African-American actors, playing slaves, might tell their white director where to draw the line -- I got a very revealing non-answer. “We’ll keep that private,” Foxx said, then went on to describe the dynamics on set, including what he thinks about the N-word, how Leonardo DiCaprio felt saying it, what Samuel L. Jackson told Leo in rehearsal.

Politics can be sleazy, but might just be out-sleazed by 'Political Animals,' the melodrama a clef that unimaginatively, nastily leeches off the Clintons. Even the great Sigourney Weaver, in the don’t-call-her-Hillary role, can’t save this tacky, leaden miniseries, whose clumsy allusions to reality amount to a series of groaners.

“We live in a culture now where it’s almost like we are used to being lied to,” Julia Louis-Dreyfuss said in a recent New York Times Magazine piece about her HBO series Veep – to which any thinking person can only respond, “ALMOST?”  (Or hope that she delivered that line with more irony than the profile made it sound.)
