This could be the Red Carpet for people who hate The Red Carpet: Miss Piggy is the hostess for the BAFTA arrivals Sunday, asking the urgent questions about clothes, jewels, dates (“Who are you with, Georgie? Why not moi?”) and we can only guess what else.

Foolish? No more than any other Red Carpet, and a lot less annoying. The official name for the BAFTA awards is the Orange British Academy Film Awards (sponsored by Orange, the British communications company) which accounts for the orange dress and the streaks in Piggy's hair in the photo above. She will also be promoting the UK premiere of The Muppets, but every movie star is promoting something.

The biggest stars have promised to turn up for the BAFTAs – Clooney, Pitt, Streep, the usual suspects. The nominations don’t exactly line up with the Oscars, so the BAFTAs aren’t very meaningful as a forecast. But they can be fun to watch and  this year the ceremony offers a return to sanity, with the urbane  Stephen Fry coming back as host after several years away. He’s witty, he doesn’t bother with silly patter, and I forgive him  his occasional weakness for bad puns.

BBC America will show a tape-delayed version of the show at 8PM ET on Sunday, so stay away from Twitter or anything webby if you want to be surprised.

More Red Carpet-Muppet details  are at the BAFTA website.
