Madonna could not have had a more enthusiastic and welcoming audience for W.E. than I was when I walked into the screening room. I’m fascinated by the inexhaustible Wallis Simpson story. We may never understand the psycho-sexual-political drama that led Edward VIII to abdicate so he could marry his twice-divorced American honey, but we can be pretty sure neither one of them schemed to end up as the exiled Duke and Duchess of Windsor.

If you missed Bob Simon's exceeeeeedingly polite interview with Angelina Jolie on 60 Minutes, watch it here. All week CBS had been teasing the piece with a snippet in which Jolie recalled her wild, "dark" days and said she was lucky she hadn't died. Did Simon press her on that? He very courteously asked her to be more specific and she declined. OK. On one side is lurid TMZ, on the other courtly 60 Minutes, in between is a real interview we'll never get. Still, there's a reason to watch.
