What we know off-screen always shapes how we watch, and tonight's season finale of House is sure to resonate in a different way because we know that Lisa Edelstein hasn't renewed her contract for next season and won't be returning as Cuddy. I can't say I'm sorry.

Nothing against Edelstein, and I don't blame her for not wanting her salary cut (along with some others on the show), reportedly the reason behind the decison. But the endless back-and-forth in the House-Cuddy romance was tiresome.

Tonight's finale was filmed before the producers were certain the show itself would be back, never mind Cuddy, so I'm guessing they devised some all-purpose cliffhanger. What I know is that House seems to be recovering extremely fast from performing surgery on his own leg in his bathtub (yeah, not a good idea). And the guest is the terrific Shohreh Aghdashloo, as a performance artist who may have a hidden agenda about House. That gives him plenty of opportunities to make fun of conceptual pieces, like - his words - "shaving your body in public while wearing a monkey mask."

Here's the trailer. You can fnd more clips at The House of Fan.
