Thanks to her Paul Revere teachable moment, we now know the answer to the question: Is Sarah Palin smarter than a fifth grader about American history?
Conan O’Brien, Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert all went after Palin’s mistake and were even harder on her laughable attempt to do damage control on Fox News – by insisting she was right. So I guess she still thinks he rode through Boston ringing bells and shouting “You’re not takin’ our guns!”
Colbert was the most elaborate and funniest; he proved she was right by reenacting Revere’s ride as Palin imagined it. Conan edited her Fox interview to mess up her language even more than she did, and edited in extra stunned-Chris-Wallace reaction shots. (Later, he also had an actor ride across stage ringing a bell on a fake horse; more of a quick take than Colbert's, but comedy writers' minds often work alike.) Stewart nailed her attempt to blame the media again.
Yesterday was, of course, a Weiner-filled news day, but The Daily Show and The Colbert Report taped not long after Anthony Weiner’s late-afternoon press conference and barely had time to rush in some brief mentions. Weiner’s temporary reprieve gave them time for these priceless bits of Palin-invented history.
