Here, ironically enough, is the ultimate proof that Jimmy Fallon should take over for Jay Leno: a congenial duet between the two men commiserating about the media flap and speculation that Fallon will replace Leno in 2014, singing "Tonight" from West Side Story rewritten to suit their story.  It's a bit of satiric and public relations genius, acknowledging and trying to defuse the rumors at the same time. (UPDATE: Two days after this video appeared, NBC announced that Fallon would take over Tonight in February; everyone obviously knew this was coming and decided to spin the transition right this time.)

Last night in Part 2 of Jimmy Fallon’s ‘Downton Abbey’ parody, ‘Downton Sixbey,’  Lady Hedith – the incomparable and lovely Fred Armisen --  repsonded to a declaration of love and a marriage proposal from Downton’s heir, Lord Questlove. Their parents, including Fallon as the Earl of Downton Sixbey and Whoopi Goldberg as Lady Whoopi  had something to say about that.

Jimmy Fallon calls it 'Downton Sixbey' (in honor of his studio, 6B). I think of it as'Keeping Up With The Granthams' (hoping for the spinoff,' Lady Hedith and the Dowager Take Miami'). But whatever you call it, the 'Late Night' satire is a howling spoof of 'Downton Abbey'. Picking up on this season’s Downton plot, here the Earl of Sixbey reveals how he has lost the family fortune (it was not investing in a railroad).

Jimmy Kimmel was a perfectly smooth host for the Emmys, though not a perfect fit. One of his trademarks, prankish humor – he asked viewers to Tweet that Tracy Morgan had passed out – didn’t translate to an awards show. His other trademark, irreverently taking swipes at the self-importance of show busines, was oddly missing.  That was left to a few clever nominees. What worked best were the pre-arranged comic bits by winners and the people they beat. Julia Louis-Dreyfus read an acceptance speech Amy Poehler had supposedly slipped into her hand (that piece of paper was too big and crumpled to be anything other than a prop). Even better, Jimmy Fallon and Stephen Colbert wrestled Jon Stewart to the ground to keep him from heading to the stage when The Daily Show won Best Variety show.

Will Ferrell’s comedy is both incomparably goofy and totally droll about it, and both sides of his humor kicked in during his guest spot on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. He was promoting his hosting spot on this week’s SNL, but also brought along the trailer for his new political comedy with Zach Galifianakis, The Campaign, coming in August.

When recorded series go live, it’s usually hard to overcome the stuntiness of it all. (Alec Baldwin promised in a promo that the live 30 Rock would be “liver” than ever, so we all get to make up new words). But 30 Rock found a brilliant, hilarious meta-solution by making its live show about live TV.

President Obama had a clear political agenda in visiting Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, on the road at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill: reaching out to young voters and more specifically lobbying against a Congressional threat to increase interest on student loans. But how cool is it that he slow-jammed the news, a Late Night feature that seems surreal enough when Brian Williams does it?
