That's Tom Hanks as Sir Michael Caine in the photo above, in a Saturday Night Live sketch tweaking entertainment figures who have been knighted, with Elton John playing himself. I wasn't looking forward to John as host, but the show was more fun than I expected because, as predictable as he was, he was also surrounded by surprises. Hanks turned up in several sketches, and Jake Gyllenhaal did a deapan cameo next to Andy Samberg as Nicolas Cage.

Now we have the video proof that Zach Galifianakis really did shave his head backstage during the last break of Saturday Night Live. Of course there was never going to be time for a Mr. T. sketch, but this is the kind of stunt that makes his deadpan comedy work.

The Miley Cyrus Show, with Vanessa Bayer playing a babbling, "Pretty Cool"-spouting Miley, has been a highlight of Saturday Night Live's season. So when Cyrus hosted last night you might have expected dueling Mileys. Instead, she played that calculating kid - even his winks are planned - Justin Bieber.

As I said in my review of the ludicrous psycho-friend thriller The Roommate (you can read it here), the movie offers more laughs than jolts. Here's the latest addition to the film's so-bad-it's-funny reputation: Justin Bieber and Andy Samberg from last night's Saturday Night Live. The parody works if you've only seen the trailer, and even if you haven't.

Remember when The Social Network came out and the Mark Zuckerberg character seemed like a possible genius but a definite jerk? The film has an edge, but you wouldn't know it from the bouquets Zuckerberg and the filmmakers have been throwing at each other -- the better for the movie to campaign during awards season and for Zuckerberg to do damage control.
