Anderson Cooper’s new daytime series begins today, and few talk shows have arrived with a better sense of the host in place. There are so many possible Katie Courics, it’s still anyone’s guess what her show will be, but where Couric seems to flounder and zig-zag, Cooper has cultivated a more positive sense of versatility. We’ve seen him report for days on end from war zones, stand up in hurricanes and – maybe most relevantly for his new syndicated adventure – get the giggles during the Ridiculist segment on CNN’s continuing AC360. (If you missed him cracking up about Gerard Depardieu peeing on a plane, it’s priceless: check it out here.)

It's not as if the MTV Movie Awards are real awards, not the Oscar kind that can change careers. That trophy isn't shaped like a bucket of popcorn for nothing. But the show (live on MTV on Sunday night), is a comic spectacle. Its movie parodies are a highlight, and it's a lot more fun to watch than pseudo-serious sham awards like The People's Choice. The success of this show is in inverse proportion to its sincerity.

What we know off-screen always shapes how we watch, and tonight's season finale of House is sure to resonate in a different way because we know that Lisa Edelstein hasn't renewed her contract for next season and won't be returning as Cuddy. I can't say I'm sorry.

He sings, he acts, and - no exaggeration - if he's not the best SNL host ever, he's one of them, so when Justin Timberlake returns for the season finale Saturday it will be the highlight of the TV weekend. The musical guest, zooming ino the land of the overexposed, is Lady Gaga

It's a hokey-enough concept, but executive producer J.J.Abrams' fingerprints are all over this eerie and stylish trailer for Alcatraz, a Fox mid-season drama about ghostly prisoners from Alcatraz past who somehow haunt the present. The cast includes Jorge Garcia from Lost and Sam Neill, and it looks like one of the better new series in the distance.

Take a look at the trailer for Fox's biggest fall series, the Spielberg-produced Terra Nova - or as this clip makes me want to call it: "Jurassic Park Meets Lost Meets Avatar." There are probably even more cloned bits and pieces thrown in from other films and series, but this clip is enough to create deja vu overload. It starts in the future, it flips back to the past, good luck figuring out where you are.

This week the networks, one by one, introduce their new shows at the spectacle for advertisers and the press called the Upfronts, and NBC goes first, on Monday. It's best to greet the Upfronts with low expectations: cable channels like HBO, Showtime and AMC have most of the best, innovative shows on TV. But somehow good shows sneak onto the networks too. Here's a look at NBC's most promising or just its weirdest for the fall.

I don't know who the murderer is on The Killing - I suppose we could ask someone in Denmark, since AMC's show is based on a Danish series. But it's more fun to keep guessing, so here's how I've narrowed it down.
