In Spike Jonze’s inspired new stop-motion short, the felt figures on the covers of old books come to life after hours in Paris’s historic and beloved Shakespeare and Co. bookshop. In Mourir Aupres de Toi (To Die By Your Side) Macbeth’s skeleton falls for one of Dracula’s beautiful victims, but true love (or lust; very tough when you don’t have a body) has to overcome dangerous tumbles into Moby-Dick and Faulkner’s Sartoris.

Acorn Media, which releases DVDs of many British mysteries and miniseries, has just launched the streaming site Acorn TV, and because it’s so new you can watch some of the best of its classic series for free. There’s Michael Kitchen (photo above) as the World War II era detective in the addictive Foyle’s War, Damian Lewis embroiled in Edwardian family turmoil in The Forsyte Saga, and best of all the original Brideshead Revisited, the series that made Jeremy Irons a star and that I still consider the best miniseries ever made. (The recent film version was a laughable distant echo.)

Not in time for Easter, here's Lady Gaga's much-hyped "Judas" video, which casts her as a biker-chick Mary Magdalene torn between Judas and a Jesus who wears a golden crown of thorns. Directed by Gaga and her creative director, Laurieann Gibson, it's visually flashy (points for costume and makeup) without being particularly fresh or inventive.

One day in the 1970’s the Loud family decided to let cameras follow them around, and before you knew it we had Snooki and table-tossing Real Housewives. An American Family, the first successful reality television series, gripped the country and kept social commentators chattering in 1973, and for more than 20 years has been unavailable. Now substantial, and pretty amazing, excerpts are on the website of WNET, the New York station that produced the series.

It takes a lot for me to notice sports, like some college basketball game forcing Letterman into reruns. But Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski are two of the funniest actors on television, and even I get the Yankees vs. Red Sox rivalry, so this new commercial transcends sports.

Some people think Arnold Schwarzenegger has always been a live-action cartoon, but this time he's cartoon-y on purpose. As he announced recently, a comic book featuring him as a crime-fighting hero called "The Governator" is in the works, to be followed by an animated TV version, both co-created by Spider-man's Stan Lee.

I happen to know that the Packers and the Steelers are facing off in the Super Bowl on Sunday, but only because I asked someone who cares; football is not my concern. The movie trailers and mini-movies meant to sell us things, though, they promise to be more entertaining.
