Predict the Golden Globe winners? I’d never try to fathom those unfathomable Globes voters. Besides, while I may cheer on some favorites in film and TV (Black Swan, Boardwalk Empire) I don’t own stock in the production companies; their wins won't change my life. For me it’s all about the show, and whether the star-gazing and comedy will be entertaining enough to be worth my time. I’m optimistic about host Ricky Gervais, who has promised to be even less reverent than last year.
I’ll have a full review when the show is over, and highlight clips on Monday. For instant reaction while it's happening, please follow me on Twitter: @carynjames
THE GOLDEN GLOBES will be on NBC Sunday at 9 ET, preceded by Red Carpet specials on NBC and E!
The awards-show deluge begins tonight with the CRITICS’ CHOICE MOVIE AWARDS (VH1 at 9:00 ET, with a red carpet pre-show at 8 on VH1 and MTV). The Broadcast Film Critics’ Association awards are not prestigious, but in recent years all the stars have shown up; after all, they will be on camera.
REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER has its season premiere tonight (HBO, 10:00 ET) with guests who are not exactly hard to find: James Carville, Martin Short and Elizabeth Warren, White House adviser and head of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
And Gwyneth Paltrow – don’t hold Country Strong against her; she can be very funny -- hosts SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (NBC, 11:30 ET) with guest Cee Lo Green.
