The Mindy Project may already be my favorite fall series, and I’ve only seen three minutes, but I totally trust Mindy Kaling as a writer and actor. Who else would ask for a guy with the money of Michael Bloomberg, the personality of Jon Stewart and the face – amend that to penis – of Michael Fassbender? Well, all of us might want that, but who else would have the wit to say so?
Kaling’s new series on Fox was just given the temp-sounding permanent title The Mindy Project, a big improvement over the previously announced title, It’s Messy. That one would have been stale even if it Kaling didn’t play an OB/GYN (as it happens, the profession of her mom in real life, as you know if you've read her best-selling book of autobiographical comic essays, Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me?).
Take a look at the trailer for the show, which features some well-known guests, but really works on the strength of Kaling’s modest, supersmart humor.
