  i don't care where the author gets "cranky" in describing Lucas?????? wouldn't that moniker belong to the movie studios???

  When you begin to reference critics in a conversation solely about a filmmaker that's when you know your opinion holds no weight. Auteur Theory was alive & true prior to Sarris defining it as such- all he did was coin a theory Ryan. Now here's a theory from an ACTUAL FILMMAKER

  What the ass-kisser stewart knows but won't say is setting aside Star Wars (all of them which I personally thought awful, the so-called prequels unwatchable), Lucas blows as a filmmaker so no studio wants to toss money down the toilet. If he's so confident in his film he could finance distribution as well but instead chooses to go on The Daily Show and whine.

  >doesn't understand basic film criticism
  >is actually a moderately talented student filmmaker in NYC which is obfuscated by lack of tact and overall film literacy
  >in spite of this, uses the haggard "oh what films have you made" argument even though great film critics like Andrew Sarris -- who never directed a film yet still added to the grammar of cinema and overall scope of film theory through introducing auteur theory

  Who do you think you are & what are your credentials( i.e. what films have you made?) to even begin to think about critiquing George Lucas. Not only is George Lucas a phenomenal filmmaker but he's also contributed a substantial amount to the medium. You'd be blessed to have accomplished a thousandth of that in your sad un-talented life, Timmy.
