The weekend’s best TV is full of Oscar buzz and inside-Hollywood comedy.
THE SCREEN ACTORS GUILD AWARDS (Sunday at 8 ET on TNT and TBS) Great for Oscar-forecasting because the members of this guild make up the biggest block of Academy Awards voters. Great for star-gazing because there are no lame musical numbers to get in the way. The only downside: you have to listen to them talk up their union and present awards by saying, ““And the Actor goes to ...” (Not a good line; don’t they know the script is everything?)
Colin Firth is a lock for the Best Actor Oscar, but that doesn’t stop other nominees from waging a media campaign. Jesse Eisenberg, The Social Network’s indelible Zuckerberg, hosts SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE (NBC, 11:30 ET).
And if you haven’t caught Matt LeBlanc mocking his own Dumb-Joey-from-Friends image in EPISODES, as an actor starring in an American remake of a smarter British sitcom, Showtime has a marathon of the first three in this increasingly funny series. (Friday, 9 ET) Here's my original review of Episodes.
