With Oscar nominations come Oscar reactions, where people tell you what movies were unfairly overlooked or foolishly overrated and why. People take these awards very seriously, and they can engender some strong feelings. If you see something today that drives you crazy -- whether it's a defense of "Zero Dark Thirty" or an assault on "Argo" -- and you want to respond to it, you may first want to read the new blog post by Vadim Rizov, a how-to guide to writing "fiery negative" criticism, specifically in reaction to other people's bogus arguments.

Two more batches of critics group awards to report: the winners from The Alliance of Women Film Journalists and the Vancouver Film Critics Circle. And, it seems, Terminal City writers and women critics from all over agree: the best film of the year is "Zero Dark Thirty." Likewise, they both agree that its director, Kathryn Bigelow, is the Best Director of 2012. The groups were also in sync on Best Screenplay (Mark Boal, "Zero Dark Thirty" - the AWFJ also gave a Best Adapted Screenplay to Chris Terrio for "Argo"), Best Supporting Actor (Philip Seymour Hoffman, "The Master"), and Best Documentary ("Searching For Sugar Man").
