The Online Film Critics Society announced the winners of the 2012 awards this morning. I was very pleased with the nominee list my colleagues and I put together, and I'm fairly happy with the outcome of the final awards too. The Best Picture trophy went to Ben Affleck's "Argo" -- not my pick, but a fine film nonetheless. "Argo" also received the award for Best Adapted Screenplay. Paul Thomas Anderson's "The Master" led all films with eight nominations, and it won two awards: Best Director (Anderson) and Best Supporting Actor (Philip Seymour Hoffman).

Here's the full list of winners from the OFCS:

Best Picture: "Argo"
Best Director: Paul Thomas Anderson, "The Master"
Best Actor: Daniel Day-Lewis, "Lincoln"
Best Actress: Jessica Chastain, "Zero Dark Thirty"
Best Supporting Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman, "The Master"
Best Supporting Actress: Anne Hathaway, "Les Miserables"
Best Original Screenplay: Wes Anderson and Roman Coppola, "Moonrise Kingdom"
Best Adapted Screenplay: Chris Terrio, "Argo"
Best Editing: Alexander Berner, "Cloud Atlas"
Best Cinematography: Roger Deakins, "Skyfall"
Best Animated Feature: "ParaNorman"
Best Film Not in the English Language: "Holy Motors"
Best Documentary: "This Is Not a Film"

The OFCS also gave out a trio of special awards this year: one to "This Is Not a Film" directors Jafar Panahi and Mojtaba Mirtahmasb for "their act of protest against the Iranian government;" one to composer Ennio Morricone for lifetime achievement; and one to the "For the Love of Film" program and Fandor for their restoration of the early Alfred Hitchcock film "The White Shadow."

This was my first year in the OFCS, and it was a great experience; I saw more movies, and enjoyed the whole process of voting on the awards. I didn't vote for a ton of the final winners -- but I was very happy to see my picks for Best Animated Feature, Best Film Not in the English Language, and Best Documentary all take their respective categories. I'm in good company in this organization. For more on the Online Film Critics Society, go to their website, OFCS.org.
