'Star Wars' Fans Reacts to the Disney/ Lucasfilm News With Typical Restraint

The biggest movie news story of the week -- and probably the month, and maybe the year -- is Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm and their plans to continue the "Star Wars" franchise with an "Episode VII" and lots more content from there. "Star Wars" nerds who, as you may know, are a somewhat vocal bunch, have been reacting to the purchase with the sort of restraint and rationality we've come to expect from Internet commenters. And by restraint and rationality I mean THEY ARE FREAKING THE HELL OUT; endlessly arguing about what the news means and suggesting who should direct the next movie (I vote for Uwe Boll. C'mon, do it.)

From what I've read so far, fandom is split pretty much right down the middle about whether this is the best or worst news in the history of "Star Wars." Prequels haters are jumping for joy; mainline Lucas apologists (and folks who haven't lost sight of the fact that he did sort of create the whole thing in the first place) are much more nervous about what comes next. Since I've been enjoying the debate so much, I thought I would collect some of the most extreme responses on both sides and share them with you. I swear these have not been edited in any way. You can find the original quotes at the links in the authors' names.

Disney buying Lucasfilm is the BEST news ever!

"THERE IS A GOD THERE IS A GOD THERE IS A GOD THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" -- cavejohnson

No, it's the WORST news ever!

"I don't want to always be negative but this is the worst thing that I never imagined for star wars" -- dioxholsters_scion

BEST:

"THANK GOD. This way Lucas can't F&^# UP any more of the movies, and we don't have to suffer through any more of his sub-retarded garbage." -- Andor

WORST:

"WELL THIS WORLD BETTER END IN DECEMBER." -- Sarah

BEST:

"THIS IS THE BIGGEST NEWS OF THE YEAR!! THE BIGGEST TURNING POINT OF AN EVENT SO MASSIVE!!! Nobody knew that this was coming!!! All hail the return of the greatest saga ever made!!! Yesssss!!!!!! and i'm gonna faint!!" -- stevenfreestyler

WORST:

"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. After John Carter no just no" -- webdood

BEST:

"YESSSSSSSSS!!!!! There IS a God!!!!! Get Lucas the HELL away from the series, and let Disney work the magic! YES!!!!!" -- TotallyRad19

WORST:

"NO. NO NO NO NO NO NO NO NO. I love Star Wars too much for this. Yes, even the prequels for Christ's sake. I like Star Wars as the story of Anakin Skywalker. Other movies set in the same universe, I could live with. I do not want another trilogy." -- Patrick Cortes

BEST:

"I think this is good news. Get a director in that does not sit on his fat arse drinking coffee. Make them R rated too.." -- Mark Bennett

WORST:

"no! you are going to do so much evil by making this movie it's gust rong." -- Shawn Thomas Taylor

BEST:

"just made poodoo in my Mandalorian armor. The best movie of the entire series was "Empire Strikes Back," and it was also the one that George Lucas had the least creative control over. Love what Disney has done with the Marvel universe, so I'm optimistic. At the very least, maybe they can wash the awful aftertaste of the prequels away." -- Darth Diggler

WORST:

"And you think Disney won't cater to children (using puppets) or be politically correct (liberal)??? Face it, Leia is now a Disney Princess! good grief." -- FLGUY71

BEST:

"BEST NEWS EVER. Woo-hoo! I'm going to Disneyland!" -- unocuziaint

WORST:

"This is the worst thing I have ever heard." -- Declan
