And now, it's time for another installment of Weird Pull Quote Theater!

From: The Village Voice, Vol. LVII No. 8

Movie: "We Need to Talk About Kevin"

Pull Quote: "So many great things happening."

Author: Andrew O'Hehir, Salon

Original Quote, in Context: "Indeed, there are so many great things happening on almost every level of this movie, from Swinton’s haunting, magnetic and tremendously vulnerable performance, which is absolutely free of condescension to the suburban American wife-ness of her character, to the many unsettling individual moments."

Why It's Weird:  The original line in O'Hehir's review refers to the film's meticulous craftsmanship.  But cutting the quote off before "on almost every level of this movie" renders it almost as unsettling as its title character's behavior.  Yes, there's so many great things happening in this movie!  Like a child killing members of his own family with a bow and arrow!  Isn't that great?  So many great things!

There's a sign in the background of one scene that reads EXPECT GREAT THINGS. Probably an in-joke on the part of the filmmakers that O'Hehir noticed.

Not to mention "why it's weird" is unnecessary. It's pretty straightforward why it's weird. You don't have to spoon feed it to us.

that last part of "why it's weird" is a huge spoiler. happens right before the end and it is not 100% foreseeable to that point.
