Safety Pull Quote

FromThe Village Voice, Vol. LVII No. 23

Movie"Safety Not Guaranteed"

Pull Quote: "The Indie hit of Summer 2012. It deserves all the hype it can get."

Author: Ben Travers, PopMatters.com

Original Quote, in Context: "I would not be shocked if 'Safety Not Guaranteed' takes off and becomes the indie hit of summer 2012... My colleague Faith Korpi already covered this extremely well in her  Day 2 report , so I won’t spend too much time praising it. That being said, it deserves all the hype it can get."

Why It's Weird: Because it calls a movie that hasn't opened yet not only a hit but the indie hit of Summer 2012. How can it be a hit if it hasn't yet earned a single dollar at the box office? How can it be the hit -- indie or otherwise -- of Summer 2012 a week and a half before the official start of summer? It can't, and a look at the original quote in context reveals that the author was, in fact, suggesting that "Safety Not Guaranteed" could be the indie hit of the summer (and having seen the film, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if it was). But to predict that it will be on June 6th is a rather presumptuous guarantee. Unless, I guess, you have a time machine.
