If Only It Were All Special Effects

A picture named franson.jpg
One of the horrifying truths about movie making is that you can almost always get distribution for a low-budget horror film. There will always be teens in search of the Friday night thrill. Make-up artist Nathan Franson (pictured here at work) knows the value of a visual shocker! Special Effect Supply features shots of his work and, more importantly, sells the books, videos and supplies to help you create your own imaginary gorefest (unlike the current administration's literal gorefest in Iraq).

For inspiration, you might want to further explore BoneYard Effects, AlmostHuman, BurmanStudio, and Edward French. Be aware that there are some horrifying images here!

For the art students, careers in film imagery abound. Clearly Martin Smeaton is an excellent sculptor and 3D artist. It appears that he has found a comfortable career in commercial art. No doubt he continues to do his own fine art. (I wonder if he agonizes over the contradiction as do all of the other fine artists I know.)

Finally, if you're going to make that low-budget horror flick, you better listen to Truby's Horror Writing Tape and study the Movie Marketing Blog.

Today's entry is in response to the primal scream I feel welling up inside of me.
