The Zambian Artists Are Going On Tour

Andrew Mulenga writes in The Zambian Post that members of the Visual Arts Council (VAC) Lusaka branch have come up with the idea of conducting study tours, the first being a two-week trip to Zimbabwe dubbed THE ZAMBIANS ARE COMING. The tour that is scheduled for the 16th of April will see a group of over 30 artists travel to the neighbouring country with which Zambia shares not only the Victoria Falls and Lake Kariba but also similar artistic traits.
With limited funds constantly being an issue, the artists launched an exhibition in collaboration with an additional 20 senior supporting artists last Tuesday at the Henry Tayali Gallery in Lusaka in an effort to raise funds for the study tour. THE ZAMBIANS ARE COMING fundraising exhibition runs a broad genre of fine art. The works span across generations from the likes of 18-year-old Memory Chanda to that of seasoned artists like Cynthia Zukas and they are also too numerous to single out and critique any individual artist. The exhibition only runs until the 26th of March to make way for a joint James Zimba and Eddie Mumba exhibition entitled 'Memories'.
The artists that are exhibiting and also on THE ZAMBIANS ARE COMING tour include: Rickie Lungu, Javan Phiri, Thompson Namukaba, Lombe Nsama, Geoffrey Phiri, Nsofwa Bowa, Gift Syakwasia, Gibson Malungu, Smart Banda, Chishimba Nyirenda, Gordon Shamulenge, Emmanuel Kapotwe, Chibesa Mubanga, Danny Lwando, Milumbe Haimbe, Kate Naluyele, Sylvia Lwando, Patrick Mweemba, Busiku Mweemba, Charles Chambata, George Mwanza, Kenneth Chulu, Mwiche Nameya, Victor Mutale, Philip Sakala, Memory Chanda, Linda Zyambo, John Mwandila, Ezron Mtonga, Sydney Siansangu and Mulenga Chafilwa.
And senior artists supporting the initiative with artworks in the exhibition are: Peter Maibwe, Laura Chimowitz, Victor Makashi, Bente Lorenze, Yen Chu, Jane Jellis, Eddie Mumba, Gabrielle Ellison, Poto Kabwe, Lutanda Mwamba, Gretta Hudson, John Hudson, Elaine Dankwerts, Patrick Mumba, Cynthia Zukas, Eva Middleton, Bright Chishimba, Jerry Miko and Tessie Lombe.
