The Museum of the Moving Image in Astoria, Queens will present a retrospective tribute to audacious French director François Ozon from Sunday, May 22 through Sunday, June 5, 2005. Ozon will appear in person at the Museum on June 5 following a special screening of his acclaimed new film, "5x2," a reverse chronological narrative of scenes from an unraveling marriage.

François Ozon is one of French cinema's brightest talents, integrating slapstick comedy, biting black humor, fanciful fairy tales, tabloid-style melodrama, stylized violence, and keenly observed adult drama into his work. Deeply influenced by such Hollywood and European directors as Fassbinder, Douglas Sirk, and Vincente Minnelli, and marked by a profound fascination with the dark side of sexuality and human nature, Ozon's smart, genre-bending films are as daring as they are playful.

Marie is sunbathing when her husband goes for an ocean swim and doesn't return. Has he left her? Committed suicide? Drowned? Ozon draws open the curtains of Marie's well-appointed apartment to find self-protective denial, stunning fragility, and a full middle-aged sexuality.
