“The Brown Bunny” with Director Vincent Gallo Present for Q&A
IFP MSP, a nonprofit arts organization, presents Vincent Gallo's "The Brown Bunny" August 4th at 7:30 p.m. at the Lagoon Theater in Minneapolis. Gallo, who stars in the film alongside Chloe Sevigny, will introduce the film and do a Q&A following the screening. In August and September the American Cinematheque's Independent Film Showcase will host numerous L.A. premieries and sneak previews, including the following: "Bush's Brain" (August 12), "Until the Night" (August 26), "Los Angeles Plays Itself" (September 9), and the L.A. premiere of "Proteus" (September 23). The Santa Monica Drive-In returns to the Santa Monica Pier August 3. Every Tuesday evening until October 5 films, including "Ghostbusters," "Star Wars," and "Ferris Bueller," will be screened to raise money for cancer relief. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free but tickets will be required for entry; those can be picked up between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. at either Santa Monica Place Mall, 2nd Floor West, or the Visitor Kiosk at 1400 Ocean Avenue. 48th San Francisco International Film Festival call for entries
The San Francisco International Film Festival announced its call for entries for the 48th annual event, scheduled to run April 21 – May 5, 2005. Narrative features, documentaries, shorts, animation, experimental, youth-produced works and television productions on film, video and digital media, which have been completed after January 1, 2004, may be submitted. Caribbean International Film Festival Announces Call for 2004 Entries
The 2004 Caribbean International Film Festival (CIFF), scheduled for November 17 -21 in St. Thomas, has announced its call for entries. The final deadline for submissions is October 1, 2004. Inner Turbulence: New York Korean Film Festival 2004
The New York Korean Film Festival will be held from August 13-19 at The ImaginAsian in New York, and from August 20-22 at Brooklyn Academy of Music Rose Cinemas in Brooklyn. The festival features 15 films from a variety of genres and, according to an official release, the title "Inner Turbulence" reflects "the filmmakers’ depictions of the internal crises and turmoil of their characters from the pressures of tradition and societal standards, and the change, growth, Bill Haney's "Gift of the Game"
At the Coolidge Corner Theater in Boston, Bill Haney's "Gift of the Game" will be screened, followed by a Q&A with the director on August 10. In the film novelist Randy Wayne White and ex-baseball major leaguers Bill Lee and Jogn Warden travel to Cuba to revive the children's baseball league founded by Ernest Hemingway before Castro. Chicago's Indiefest 2004 Lineup Announced
The Indiefest Film Festival and Market, held from July 30th to August 8th at Chicago's Biograph Theatre, has announced their 2004 festival selections, which include more than 50 films from 10 countries. Robert Hall's "Lightning Bug" will open the festival and other selections include "Rick," "Danny Deckchair," and the premiere of Marty Sader's "Most High." Art and Politics: The 2nd Annual HOWL Film Festival
The 2nd Annual HOWL Film Festival will run from August 18-24 as part of the 7-day HOWL Festival of East Village Arts. The festival opens on Wednesday, August 18th with a screening of Jerry Aronson’s 1973 biopic "The Life and Times of Allen Ginsberg." On August 19th, the new Ramones film, "End Of The Century," will premiere. Other screenings include William Gazecki’s "Invisible Ballots," "We Interrupt This Empire," and "POPaganda: The Art & Subversion of Ron English." The 9th Annual Stony Brook Film Festival will run from July 21st to July 31st at the Staller Center for the Arts at Stony Brook University in Long Island, NY. The South by Southwest Film Festival has announced the schedule for their 2005 SXSW Summer Cinema Series. The 2nd annual series is an encore of films from the 2004 SXSW Film Festival and will run from August 3rd to September 19th at the Alamo Drafthouse Downtown in Austin, TX. The series will kick off with a three-night engagement of the documentary "Barbecue: A Love Story," and continue each week with three-nights of the following features: "Bush's Brain," "Blackballed: The Bobby Dukes Story," "Last Man Standing," "Dear Pillow," "A Few Good Dykes," and "The Naked Feminist." Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films & Short Film Market Call for Entries Deadline
The Palm Springs International Festival of Short Films & Short Film Market will be held from August 31 - September 6, 2004. The tenth annual Festival, to take place at the Camelot Theatre is the largest short film festival and market in North America. The deadline for all film entries into this year's Festival is July 23, 2004. The festival qualifies for Oscar consideration for films screened during the event. The 11th Slamdance call for entries
The 11th Annual Slamdance Film Festival is now officially accepting short and feature film submissions in all genres for its 2005 edition. The festival will take place January 21 -28, 2005 in Park City, Utah. The 2004 festival received over 2600 submissions from all over the world. Selection is narrowed to under 20 features for both the main feature competition, which is strictly devoted to films without domestic theatrical distribution, from first-time feature directors, working with relatively low budgets, and the documentary competition.
