National Film Board of Canada Call for Entries
The National Film Board of Canada is putting the call out to new filmmaking talent with "Reel Diversity," a national competition for emerging filmmakers of color. Reel Diversity will give three promising directors the chance to direct their own NFB documentary, to be broadcast nationally on CBC Newsworld. As many as eight proposals will be selected for a five-month development period, during which directors will also benefit from an intensive training session. Angelus Awards Student Film Festival call for entries
The tenth annual Angelus Awards Student Film Festival , has announced its call for entries. The 2005 Angelus Awards ceremony and screening of winning films will be held Oct. 22 at the Directors Guild of America in Hollywood. All genres will be accepted, including dramas, comedy, documentary and animation. Eligible films’ maximum running time is 90 minutes or less, and they must have been completed between June 2003 and July 2005 while the filmmaker was an undergraduate or graduate student at an accredited film school or university. "HBO Films and The Film Society of Lincoln Center are holding a nationwide competition that will provide college students with the opportunity of a lifetime: the chance to create a trailer to precede film screenings at one of the world’s most important cultural institutions. The Film Society of Lincoln Center, which has screened the works of countless legendary filmmakers including Jean-Luc Godard, François Truffaut, and Stanley Kubrick -- and which continues to showcase the work of celebrated and emerging filmmakers from all over the world -- will premiere the winning work in the Student Trailer Competition at its annual New Directors/New Films festival, co-presented by The Museum of Modern Art, late March 2005 in New York City. The winning trailer will showcase The Film Society of Lincoln Center as well as highlight its major annual festivals, programs and events. The winner will receive a check for $5,000 and a trip to New York for the trailer’s premiere, as well as a line credit at the end of the trailer, which will be shown before every Film Society screening for the next two years. HBO Films producers will professionally finish the trailer. The Sundance Institute Feature Film Program is seeking applications for the 2005 Alfred P. Sloan Fellowship. The Fellowship will provide support for a script, from inception to pre-production, that explores science or technology themes or that depict scientists, engineers, or mathematicians in engaging and innovative ways. The Fellowship was established in 2003 with a grant from the Alfred P. Sloan Foundation as part of a multi-faceted project designed to foster the development and exhibition of new independent film projects on science or technology themes. The multi-year effort blends the Sloan Foundation’s goal of enhancing public understanding of science and technology with Sundance Institute’s mission to foster independent voices and compelling storytelling in film. The program also includes the annual Alfred P. Sloan Prize, presented to a film at the Sundance Film Festival that focuses on science and technology themes.
