Anime Titles I Recommend

Here are a few titles I recommend plebes who need some clues on good anime titles they should attempt to watch.

This is not in any order. Whatever pops into my head...

Tenchi Muyo!
Synopsis: Alien chicks crash on Earth and meet a young boy by the name of Tenchi Masami. They chase him, try to fend off alien invaders and save a universe all in the name of friendship and love. Yay.
Why I recommend it: It's funny. A classic, really. Each character is memorable, especially Ryo-Ohki, the cabbit (cat rabbit) that change into a spaceship at a moments notice. Don't you wish your pet can turn into a spaceship at your whim?

Inu-Yasha
Synopsis: Demon slaying, love, friendship and groping in Feudal Japan. This show has it all. Inu-Yasha is a demon with a heart of gold while Kagome is the girl from present-day Japan who is a reincarnation of a priestess. They are joined by Muroku, the ass-grabbing monk (letcher), Sango, the demon slayer and Shippo, a really cute demon. The show is about to end it's run on Cartoon Network.

Sailor Moon
Synopsis: This show transcends age and culture. Behind the cuteness and girl power stance lies a more grown up message in later seasons. This show was never meant for the young girls. It really had some issues like really older men dating really younger girls (Darien - the college-aged boy dating Serena - a teenager) and best of all - lesbianism. That didn't make itself apparent until seasons three and four. The fourth season never aired in the US because of the lesbo overtones (a shame!). Overall the show - as corny, cheesy and formulaic as it was, still holds a special place in the hearts of anime fans.

Azumanga Daioh
Synopsis: This show is just so damn cute! I can't explain this any better. There is a reason why this show is addictive to watch. All the characters are funny and each episode are incredibly hilarious. My favorite is the "Culture! Culture! Culture!" episode where the school prepares for their spring culture festival.

Neo Tokyo
Synopsis: Rintaro, Katsuhiro Otomo and Yoshiaki Kawajiri - three anime masters each with a story that first appeared on US TV via MTV's Liquid Television in the early '90s. While at the Anime Network, I was able to schedule these three shorts on the network and nine times out of ten, this was one of my favorite to program. The three shorts, "Labyrinth," "Running Man," and "The Order to Stop Construction" are what make up Neo Tokyo (Manie Manie in Japan).

That's more than a few huh?

I'd figure to start it off slowly and then work your way up from there. But, these are truly awesome anime titles that I would definitely recommend newbies to own. I didn't get into my serious anime list! That's next time.
