Ok. I'm going to show pictures now b/c I'm still seething from what happened Saturday. There was an article from ICv2 wrapping up what happened over the weekend. I found it funny and sad. Funny because Reed Exhibitions admitted that they knew the floor was too small to accommodate a crowd of 20,000+. Sad because the show would've been perfect if they gave a little more respect to the industry in general. I have a little note to Reed Exhibitions -- there are a lot of exhibitors who are pissed at you. A lot.
I have a couple of things to add... Karen Lynn Gorney and Gloria Steinem. Both were there and for different reasons. Gorney was there because I have no fucking clue why (You know who she is right? She was Travolta's disco dance partner from Saturday Night Fever). And Steinem was there to promote her comic called Carrie Giver. Um, it was weird to see them there. Frank Miller was there Sunday and that was cool. He mentioned that Sin City 2 will go into production this summer, which illicited vocal appreciation from the crowd. The sequel will follow the Nancy Callahan character after the suicide of Hartigan. And the film will introduce new characters such as Ava. Miller admitted that it will be fun casting the part of Ava. Fun indeed.
We're currently editing segments that will air on Comcast's Anime Selects VOD.

More will be on the way.
I'm currently at NY Comic-Con and I can't believe what just happened this afternoon. The NYC fire marshall came and very nearly shut the whole show down because of the overflow of people that converged at the Javits Convention Center. And then, NY State Troopers were brought in to control the crowd. It was that kind of day for me. I want to fire some people.
First off, I want to fire the person who thought the ground floor was good enough for the main exhibition. You are so fired! This show was produced by Reed Exhibitions, the people behind Mip and MipTV. I was stunned to learn that they seriously knew there would be a large attendance for Saturday but they didn't bother to change the floor plans. So, this was what prompted the NYC fire marshall to arrive and bring a cadre of NY State Troopers with him. Oh, it was bad.
I want to really bitch about this. I mean, c'mon! You are f&*king Reed Exhibitions! What the f!$k were you people thinking? And guess what? Other exhibitors were thinking the exact same thing. Everyone paid for this event and my crew and I didn't just drive out on a Saturday to get shat on. This was a logistic nightmare and I hope to dear God you people learn from this...and learn it quickly. You are no San Diego Comic-Con. And you are certainly not Anime Expo. And this is New York City! Not Indianapolis or Seattle. This was supposed to be a top-notch con, nothing less. It ended up being the worst con I have attended to date.
And now, for the real bitch session... I want to say "F%8k You" to a couple of bitchy publicists from Sony/Screen Gems. Get over yourself! I'm producing the god damn segment and you give me your fking attitude. Be thankful a TV crew was there at all. I don't give a crap if Ultraviolet flops or wins a weekend. At least our shit does get watched. So F%^k You!
I would be remiss if I didn't mention Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory coming back to our shores next month. And to kick things off, Apple iTunes is promoting their U.S. single "Ooh La La" all this week as a free download. So there are no excuses as to saying something like, "What do they sound like?" or "Where can I download their music...legally."
March is a big month for them. The band is currently finishing up their 2nd leg of the UK tour and looking forward to touring worldwide. This is what they will be doing in the U.S.:
March 7 - U.S. release of Supernature
March 11 - The Wiltern, Los Angeles
March 13 - Performance debut on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno
March 16 - SxSW, Austin Music Hall
I couldn't pass this up.
Sex Workers' Group Calls for Boycott of "Grand Theft Auto"San Francisco - A sex workers' advocacy group has called for a boycott of Take-Two Interactive/Rockstar Games' "Grand Theft Auto" video games, saying it opposes the representations of prostitutes in the games. The San Francisco-based Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP) said in a statement that it "will always be adamantly opposed to any and all forms of censorship," but, "since the video game Grand Theft Auto accrues points to players for the depiction of the rape and murder of prostitutes, SWOP-USA calls on all parents and all gamers to boycott Grand Theft Auto." The group also cited a report from the National Institute on Media and the Family, which found "a strong correlation between exposure to violent video games and various forms of antisocial behavior."
Alright, so who hasn't asked for a boycott of Grand Theft Auto?
From Wired's Sex Drive Daily blog. Hot sex!
If you have been to a Goldfrapp show (or have seen pics), you probably notice the amount of synth gear on stage that reproduces their sounds. This article from Keyboard Magazine gets down to the nitty-gritty of their gear. I liked the article. Of course they were talking shop but for synth enthusiasts, it shows a deep appreciation for the band and their uncanny ability to make the synth sounds palatable again.
It is never too early for Anime Expo. Considered the grand daddy of all anime cons, this year marks a special year - 15th Anniversary. I've been given some hints as to what to expect this year and the stuff being planned is pretty exciting. I can't go into detail. All I can say is, this event will impress everyone.
Last year, I produced segments for Comcast's Anime Selects and we had a great time. Expect us to return and with some surprises.
This day gets better and better. California based video distributor Red Light District acquired a videotape that chronicles the sexual escapades on board the tour bus. It was shot during the 1999 tour when Creed supported Kid Rock (Stapp was fronting Creed at that time). Click here for a :30 clip of some groupies giving (or just gave) a blow-job to Stapp and some form of intercourse to Rock.
Didn't Stapp just get married?

Radiohead's song, "Paranoid Android," (Ok Computer), was used as temp music for the opening credits from Manglobe's latest project Ergo Proxy. Manglobe produced Samurai Champloo which is currently airing on Cartoon Network's [adult swim].
After the band saw clips and trailers of Ergo Proxy, they thought it was best that their music stayed in the opening credits. And there you have it! Another satisfied anime customer.

I guess getting his dick sucked by Chloe Sevigny was simply not enough. Have you visited his website lately? Or ever? I just happen to know this link via a posting on another message board (I won't say where b/c I don't want to associate this mysoginist to that particular board).
Click on this link and read where you can rent Vincent Gallo for an evening of whatever- sex, I guess. For $50k, you can rent Vincent Gallo for a night. Oh, and if you scroll all the way to the bottom, you can purchase his sperm for $1million. I can't make this shit up, people.
At freaking last! Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children will be available on U.S. shelves April 25, 2006. That's this April, not next April or three Aprils into the future - this year's April. God damn you Sony! Sorry, I had to spew. It was bound to happen. But, there was reason for the delay. Here are some of those reasons:
Mena Suvari and Rachael Leigh Cook
They lend their voice talents to a couple of awesome characters in the Final Fantasy world. Hence, last minute contractual blah, blah, blah.
And why am I fussing about Advent Children? Go to their site and check out the trailer. It's the Final Fantasy movie that should've been made years ago (we can sweep Spirits Within under the rug).
While we're at it, there was that big press release a couple of days ago about Kingdom Hearts II and their all-star voice cast. It's street date for gamers is March 28, 2006. Haley Joel Osment reprises the role of Sora as he is joined by the likes of David Gallagher (7th Heaven), Christopher Lee (The Lord of the Rings and way too many other films to mention), Jesse McCartney (yeah, the singer and former soap star), James Woods (do I need to reference?) and Zach Braff (the cutey from Scrubs and Garden State). Oh, and Mena Suvari and Rachael Leigh Cook reprise their FF roles as Aerith and Tifa, respectively. See the connection?
Again, why do I make such a big deal about it? Because there's no other game on the market that meshes the Disney characters and Square Enix characters as effectively as this. To understand the love and fandom of Kingdom Hearts, you have to play it. What's great about the game is that you play as Sora, a character from the Final Fantasy world and alongside are the main Disney characters such as Mickey, Donald and Pluto. In addition, you summon other Disney characters whenever you are in battle mode. And the lands Sora visits are lands that are from the Disney world. In the sequel, Sora and co. will visit worlds such as Tron, Pirates of the Caribbean, Mulan and Steamboat Willy. That's just a sampling.
Game on!

Can you believe it? Where has time gone? 10 years of pokemon battles and yet, Ash Ketchum is still on his journey to becoming a pokemon master. He looks pretty damn good for his age.
I'm just laughing at the fact that there will be a point in the show when they seriously run out of make-believe names for these characters. What will Nintendo do then? When do you think the Pokemon kool-aid starts to run out?
Well, NY Comic-Con is coming up. It's not completely anime but it's presence will be felt at the Jacob Javits Convention Center. Yours truly will be there and with a crew so if you happen to be there and you see an entourage of cameras, that's me and my crew from Comcast. So, feel free to say "Hi" and shower us with praises like "We rock" or something close to that.
Next month is the Tokyo International Anime Fair (TAF). I plan to be in Tokyo for that. I promise to take pics and video. I might even try one of those maid cafes purely for shits and giggles.
This just in... Alison Goldfrapp and Will Gregory of the British band Goldfrapp will hold a web chat some time in the near future. They are taking questions from anybody who wants to get in on the chat session. Here's the email to send your chat questions to: frappchat@mutehq.co.uk. The deadline is February 17 (it's a Friday but for some reason, the site insists that the 18th is a Friday????). And there's more... you can see Alison and band in their first video message. Click here for that madness. But wait! There's more... Alison has a blog! I know! About freakin' time, girl! Now we get to see all the awesome postcard-like photos and comments coming from Ms. Goldfrapp herself. It's a mobile blog, so the pics and comments are coming from her mobile phone.
Cheers!
What was I watching last night? Let's see...I was watching Lost and then right afterwards, I went to my Now Playing list from TiVO and started watching last Monday's episode of 24. So, when I learned about who won at the Grammy Awards, I said to myself, "Awe. Oh well."
Click here for the list of winners.

I'm getting lazy. So, just click on this link and you tell me what you think.
Blahhhh.
While growing up in Hayward, CA in the early 1980s, it was imperative to celebrate your birthday parties at the nearby Chuck E. Cheese restaurant. You didn't just go there for the video game room and skee ball section, the highlight of the venue was the animatronic Chuck E. Cheese band. That was mesmerizing to a bunch of third graders who bought into the robotic performance after two birthday parties. By the third birthday party, you knew you were watching bad robotics and you couldn't wait to jump on stage and rip their arms and furry hands right off.
Anyway, the reason I dredged up that part of my past is because the founder of Chuck E. Cheese and former CEO of Atari, Nolan Bushnell, has opened a new restaurant in Woodland Hills, CA called uWink. It is literally a restaurant of the future - like Jetsons future. A touch screen is at your table and you get to order from the screen anything on the menu at any time. After you read it, you too will think, "Wow, will they have one here on the East Coast?" I hope so. And to pass time, the screen also shows a menu for video games. Now, will they consider having Sony's QRIO robots to entertain? Just like the ones used in the Beck video "Hell Yes"? Look below...
Cute and yet, deadly. The reason they move so fluidly is because they house the souls of lost children in their little frames. I'M JUST KIDDING!!!!! That was very Ghost in the Shell of me.
