Lock and Loaded for Anime Expo 2006

Friends... I am in LA and gearing up to party for the weekend. If you watch anime, know anime, taste anime, then you should know about Anime Expo that is held every year around July 4th weekend. I'll be with the Anime Selects crew and we'll have loads of fun this year. We will have a studio on the convention floor and lots of awesome giveaways and events.
Kicking things off on Saturday, I was able to book Peelander-Z to come out and perform as our special music guest. Yeah! On that same day, we have the kind people of Bang Zoom! Entertainment doing an open VO session at our booth. Anime fantasies come alive! Plus, there's more! Surprise guest VO actors will stop by our stage and join an unsuspecting person at the mic.
And then on Sunday, Man-Faye returns to the convention floor. The very same convention floor that banned him for two years. Not this time.
And on Monday, we have a special industry event where our friends from Bandai will have the cast and producers of anime series Eureka SeveN share their thoughts about the show and share inside info. We will also have Japanese band The Indigo stop by and chat with us.

If you happen to attend this year's AX, stop by the Anime Selects booth and say "Hi!"

New Aki Nun Cafe

The day has finally arrived... A new themed cafe opened recently in Akihabara where instead of cute girls wearing maid outfits greet you, cute girls wearing nun outfits will greet you as you enter. Hot!

Click here to access more info about the cafe because I know you too are dying to check out the pics.

I've been asked on many occasions when I will cosplay and I always reply, "No. I don't do that sort of thing." Well, looking at those outfits might actually change my mind. Hehe!

PingMag - Gez Fry interview

This is starting to become my new favorite site.

Who is Gez Fry? Click here to find out...

Booth Babes Call!

Ok people. The search is officially on.

PingMag - The Case of the Phallic Mushrooms

I encountered this article while trolling through the Goldfrapp message board. It was an interesting interview with Rachel Thomas of Big Active who did set design for the album artwork on Goldfrapp's Supernature cd. The designs are stunning and enormous.

Plus, PingMag is pretty cool. I like things that talk about making things. This was a good find. GMB you have done it again!

Video Game Detox

In Amsterdam, a detox clinic for video gaming addiction will be the first of it's kind in Europe (in the world, quite frankly).
Click here for the article from Wired. After reading it, I think the clinic is best served for people who have any form of addiction, not just video games. It seemed that whenever players couldn't switch themselves off from the gameplay, they resorted to drug abuse (cocaine, speed, crystal meth, etc.) to keep their habit going. Damn kids. It's only a fucking game!

You Wanna Qumana?

This is a new blogger tool that I had to test for myself. The way it works is this, you download a Beta version of the software (free) and it resides on your desktop for easy access to publishing to your blog. That's what I'm doing right now.

It has all sorts of publishing tools such as an insert ad and insert tag button. It is quite the handy publisher.

Let me upload this to see how it looks:

Anime Expo 2006 - Bigger and Better

So in a few days, Anime Selects will send out a press release related to events that will be at our studio/booth this year. This is our first year of ever having a booth at an anime convention and we will kick this off right.

I can reveal one thing...Man Faye will be at AX on Sunday, July 2. We will have the audacity to bring this controversial man onto the convention floor. Legend has it that three years ago, his privates somehow "slipped out" of his very tight yellow hot pants. In reality, his hairy ass offended some people and brought the Anaheim police to the convention. You see, Man Faye is cosplaying as the character Faye Valentine from the anime Cowboy Bebop (one of my personal favorites). Someone decided to snitch on the guy and he was banned from ever setting foot on the convention floor again. But, as long as he's not dressed as Man Faye, he is welcomed to be on the floor.
We thought, "how strange." So we decided to let bygones be bygones and invite Man Faye to be our special cosplay guest.
So if you don't have anything planned for the July 4th weekend and you happen to be in Anaheim, CA, swing by the Anaheim Convention Center and be a part of this special freakish event.

Burger/Deli Maid Cafe in Akihabara

Woohoo! A Maid cafe burger joint will open in Akihabara very, very soon. Because I still can't read Japanese, I'm going by what Anime News Network posted on their site.

Maids and burgers! Awesome!

Rob Zombie to do new Halloween movie

Ok, I have to admit this...I loved The Devil's Rejects. Watching it reminded me of '70s sexploitation and horror films -- you know like I Spit on Your Grave or The Hills Have Eyes. House of 1000 Corpses did absolutely nothing for me.
So when news hit the wires and blogs about Miramax and Dimension planning an October 2007 release of a new Halloween movie, I thought nothing of it. When the releases said Rob Zombie will write and direct, my eyebrows raised and I thought, "shit, that's gonna be good."

Duck Swallows Alien! (or something)

This picture is too weird for words...

Photo by: AP Photo/International Bird Rescue Research Center, Marie Travers

Here's an excerpt from AP:
CORDELIA, Calif. - The International Bird Rescue Research Center in Cordelia plans to raise funds with an unusual duck X-ray. The bird came in with a broken wing, but when Marie Travers, assistant manager of the center, radiographed the duck, she was stunned to see a very clear image of what appeared to be the face, or head, of an extraterrestrial alien in the bird's stomach.

Read the rest here.

I think it's a hoax (I don't care if this research center insists on it's authenticity). I think the duck swallowed someone's alien head keychain.
