Seventh Tree's Package Has Some "Tit"ilating Stuff Inside

By now, you should be so sick and tired of me blogging about this album. But, I can't stop talking about it since I've been hypnotized by the sheer power of Alison & Will's music and those damn tits she drew inside the cd jewel case (artwork behind the cd). Oh, and not just tits, but tits and very graphic below-the-waist sketch. You do have to admit, Alison can draw. Wonderful piece of artwork. Its a theme, though. Remember on the cover of Supernaturewhat she's surrounded by? It was a forest of dicks. So now the universe is balanced (art-wise).

All Points West - Radiohead & Jack Johnson Headline

Here's the latest on the "Coachella of the East" show aka All Points West. Radiohead will do two nights while Jack Johnson will close out the final night. Both are headlining. The first All Points West Music & Arts Festival is to be held Aug. 8-10 at Liberty State Park in good 'ol New Jersey!

Here is the tentative list with so much more to announce:

Underworld, Kings Of Leon, Cat Power, the Roots, the New Pornographers, Girl Talk, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Youssou N'Dour, Animal Collective, Andrew Bird, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Metric, CSS, Chromeo, the Go! Team, Amadou & Mariam, the Black Angels, Sia, the Felice Brothers, K'Naan, Jason Isbell, Grace Potter and the Nocturnals, Alberta Cross, the Virgins, Black Kids, Mates Of State, Duffy, Forro In The Dark, Nicole Atkins, Juana Molina, Little Brother, Rogue Wave, Neil Halstead and Your Vegas.

Tickets go on sale Feb. 29. Single-day tickets are $89, while three-day passes will sell for $258. A portion of the proceeds will benefit Friends of Liberty State Park, which is working to make environmentally friendly improvements to the venue.

Exciting!

Leonardo DiCaprio w/Warner Bros. to Produce live-action Akira

As reported in Variety and Hollywood Reporter, Warner Brothers and Appian Way, Leonardo DiCaprio's production company, will adapt the Katsuhiro Otomo classic manga to a live-action version. In Warner's version, Akira will be set in "New Manhattan" rather than "Neo-Tokyo" (which is how it is written in the manga & anime). And New Manhattan is a city that is rebuilt by Japanese money.

This is the second anime/manga property Warner Brothers has announced. The previous was the Robotech movie w/Tobey Maguire attached to produce. Warner's aggressive approach to the anime and manga market should pose as good news to a beleagured sector undergoing massive shifts and market consolidation. Akira anime was released on DVD in the US by now defunct Geneon/Pioneer. It is highly likely we will see that title re-issued under a different US distributor (just in time for the live-action movie). I kinda know who will most likely do it and all I can say is, may they please release a re-mastered version in Blu-Ray.

Anime TV Episode 12 - The AX Episode

Just got news that the awesome folks over at Anime TV have posted episode 12 from season one. The episode features segments from the ATV crew's adventures last year at Anime Expo in Long Beach, CA. They were great hosts on the Anime Selects stage and we had a blast (albeit causing a lot of trouble and bringing out the fire marshalls!). What can you say? We know how to party!

So watch this clip and enjoy!

P.S. Super thanks to Eric and the entire Bang Zoom Entertainment! team for their endless support and enthusiasm. And thanks for mentioning me in the end credits. That was sweet!

Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree -- The WHOLE ALBUM -- Now on their MySpace Page

If you missed out on the November "leak", now's your chance to hear the entire album and listen to what all the fuss is about.

Jump HERE now. (2/27 is the last day for the free streaming)

SeventhTree_album_art.jpg

Album art designed by Big Active. I like the description of the deluxe edition.

My early review from back in November 2007: (I ended up unpublishing it but some servers cached it)

I don't know if this is what Mute's marketing camp meant by aggressive upfront marketing campaign. I'll have to say, for the leak to take place on Thanksgiving is somewhat a surprise. I checked my email yesterday and lo and behold I get messages containing links to sites with the entire album in unmastered format. The streams were coming at 128kbps but in an MPG4 file format.

I'm listening to the album right now and I will have to say it really is unlike any of their previous releases. Some people will say, "Oh its more Felt Mountain than Supernature" but in reality its not. Its tame on electronic, more on acoustic guitar. Little to no Theramin :( . More tambourine. More flute. More piano. Steel harp. Strings. Generous on the bass. More personal. Less oblique. Its really an amazing release. You just can't believe this is the same exact band that came out about two years ago with a disco-stomping, glam-romping release. But that's why I love and follow this band to no end. I'll be really surprised if the people who discovered the band during Supernature will actually love this pop/folk/almost bluesy release.

The band and label believe Seventh Tree is the kind of release that succeeds on word of mouth. I honestly believe that. The "leaked" release proved that. I can imagine a lot of bandwagon-type folks are gonna jump ship because its not sexy or decadent. I think Alison and Will deserve more than that. They deserve a smile and the sun in their pocket. This album is a complete and total reflection of everything they have experienced so far. I laugh when I listen to the lyrics of "Some People" where she sings how people ask how old she is. The song is her gentle "FU" answer to those rude bastards and hangers-on. In Alison's lyrics, the fools do suffer and Hollywood swallows itself alive and somehow craps itself out for another day.

There are two versions of the release - standard release and special edition. Actually, I woud rather have a SACD or Blu-Ray release of Seventh Tree where the band has videos already produced for this album and bonus videos from the three previous albums as well as live footage from Supernature. But that's most likely a pipe dream. But I do hope to see bonus tracks in the final mixed version.

Seventh Tree is a great release for 2008. Scratch that. It's mouth wateringly delicious and makes you stupid with excitement at the end.

I'll just drop little hints that describe each track.

1. Clowns - Beautiful. Lush strings. A bit Fleetwood Mac. More Scott Walker. My favorite track.
2. Little Bird - Psychedelic.
3. Happiness - Toe-tapping madness. Perfect for a commercial. Danceable; like ring-around-the-rosie danceable. Or Maypole dancing - like what Alison said in the press release. A bit Beach Boys. I love this song.
4. Road to Somewhere - Now this track seriously sounds like The Cardigans. Oh, clapping. There's clapping. Moody and almost (but not quite) Hooverphonic.
5. Eat Yourself - Another favorite of mine. Sounds more Kate Bush. This one just flat out grew on me badly.
6. Some People - Another fave of mine. Piano-centric. Anthem sounding. Imagine a moment at concerts where you whip out the Zippo lighter. This song is that moment. Get those Zippos ready!
7. A&E - The first single. A bit Beatles, a bit Duncan Sheik, a bit Train (- the band, not the song - I can't believe I just wrote that). Anyway, hospitals tend to come off as places of horror so the lyrics lean in that direction but as we all know now, its about a broken relationship.
8. Cologne Cerrone Houdini - Sounds a bit Serge Gainsbourg, Air, Scott Walker. I like this song. Imagine driving down the PCH (Pacific Coast Highway for those who don't know) in a car with the CA sun setting; and sitting next to someone you thought was "the one" and turns out they are not.
9. Caravan Girl - Almost The Magic Numbers but not. Very, very upbeat. Danceable.
10. Monster Love - References to Hollywood, CA, and a bit of all of the above.

Goldfrapp Performs on T4

Highlights from performances - Alison performing barefoot and wearing that pirate hat. Puffy blouses do seem to be the prevailing theme as most of the live band members are sporting that look. She does wear the color spotted one-piece catsuit that we see her sporting in her short film snippets.

Enjoy!

Seventh Tree Trailer on Amazon UK site

I hate how Amazon - UK or other countries - doesn't allow their player to be embedded on other sites. They obviously want to horde all kinds of traffic this way. Bastards.

90 Day Jane - A Suicide Blog Watch -- That Was Fake Anyway

**Updated as of 2/15**

Yep, all the attention she apparently didn't want finally made the creator/author/architect of "90 Day Jane" come clean about the blog. A highly strange art project. I hope she gets an "A". An "A" for *sshole!

First of all, when you create a blog account, you're not exactly using the account to show a few people your experiment. You're showing the entire world. So her excuse was sooooo weak that you can literally call out "b*@!sh!t".
----------------------------------------------------
Yes, you read that right. As I was reading through my reports and newsletters, this site came up on the radar as getting a lot of hits and visits. Contrived? For real? Part of an elaborate scheme to develop a show that MySpace overlooked? You be the judge.

Goldfrapp on Jo Whiley's Live Lounge

Chances are some of you missed last Friday's show. I was on the road to Philly heading for a meeting so this was somewhere in the back of my mind. Goldfrapp paid a visit to BBC Radio1's Jo Whiley Live Lounge to perform "A&E" and a cover of Grace's "Not Over Yet" (or if you prefer Klaxons' cover of "It's Not Over Yet" - same song). With the release of Seventh Tree looming and the "A&E" single release Feb 11 (UK)/ Feb 12 (US), this is a nice warm-up to the impending offical album release.

Goldfrapp-livelounge.jpg

If you feel you must have this gem, visit the Goldfrapp fan site and you will find your answers (and more!) there.

Jo Whiley said a funny thing during the interview where she admitted that she was listening to Seventh Tree while getting a facial at a spa. Interestingly, some months ago I've noticed several visits to my blog where someone from a spa in the UK was visiting my site and stayed on for quite a while. I thought to myself, "who the hell is reading my blog from the spa?" I will assume it was Jo. I hope she enjoyed what she read.

Tommy Lee Jones in Latest Suntory Boss Ad

OMFG! Last year, I caught one of the ads from Suntory Boss drinks that features a campaign with Tommy Lee Jones. The campaign is called "Alien Jones" (which I didn't know until Anime News Network revealed it) and has been an ongoing campaign since April of 2006 (again, I didn't know that).

DSCF0814.JPG

In this ad he is featured in a maid cafe, working as a camera assistant and playing games with a Akiba maid in moe mode (very kawaii). Jump to see the 15 second ad or the 30 second ad. I prefer the 30 second ad since we see more of the Otaku culture proudly on display.

One of the many reasons why I [heart] Tommy Lee Jones.

Aqua Teen Hunger Force "Sirens" Episode

You most likely saw this mentioned on Pitchfork's site a couple weeks ago. This was the season premiere episode featuring Neko Case, Kelly Hogan and former Phillies' John Kruk.

ATHF_sirens.jpg

The video on [adult swim]'s website has already garnered over half a million views since the episode debuted last Sunday. That's a fuckn' lot for a 15min episode! Awesome lines to date... "This is the BJ Queen"; "I am your fantasy Carl. There is no credit card required."

Jump here for the episode. And if you can't wait for the new upcoming episode titled "Couples Skate", then jump here too. Best line from that ep... "Did you ride the white horse?"

Remember this Super Bowl Ad?

Go Giants!
