Goldfrapp Live at De La Warr Pavilion, Bexhill-on-Sea, UK -- *LIVE POLE DANCING!*

I wasn't there but God I wish I was. Goldfrapp celebrated the Summer Solstice by having a maypole with large stag head on stage. The maypole actually doubled as a stripper pole. And in true Goldfrapp fashion, two dancers joined the band on stage to dance, throw flowers and strip to their bikinis before prancing onto the pole for some good 'ol fashioned pole dancing.

That brought a whole new perspective to the new single "Caravan Girl". Add that song to songs to strip to. There's a full version clip of the "Caravan Girl" performance all the way at the bottom of this post.

In addition to that, Alison brought the theremin out of retirement and returned to her magical fondling moments with the mobile theremin. At one point, Alison used her left breast to play the theremin which wailed and squealed with excitement.

Imagine if the band had a lot more access to touring funds. The show would've been that... dancers dressed in white dancing, stripping and pole dancing. Plus, Alison said she wanted "scantily clad Morris Dancers"... if they were added there would've been an orgy on stage similar to the pub scene from "The Wicker Man" (the one with Edward Woodward - remember that).

Alison Goldfrapp Has A Summer Message To Share... Oh, and the "Little Bird" Live at Union Chapel Video

I simply adore Alison's bawdy sense of humor. She kinda reminds me of me.

And in case you were wondering how that Union Chapel gig went down earlier this year, check out the psychedelic version of "Little Bird" when it made its debut.

"Little Bird" Live at Union Chapel, UK

The video is available on the Maxi-CD release of "Caravan Girl".

And Goldfrapp will finally make their way to The Land Down Under. Here are those Australian dates:

Sunday 28th September - Melbourne - Parklife Festival
Monday 29th September- Perth - Parklife Festival
Saturday 4th October - Brisbane - Parklife Festival
Sunday 5th October - Sydney - Parklife Festival

Midsummer Madness!

Sonic State.com Interviews Will Gregory of Goldfrapp - Part 2

In this second part of the interview Will discusses synth samples, modular settings and other digital gear that is at the studio.

Its interesting how the band mixes old gear with the new.

Goldfrapp's Caravan Girl Video is Online

This new forthcoming single from Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree has brought on some mixed reactions from fans. But nothing prepared them for this video that popped onto the band's site. The video debuted exclusively on Goldfrapp.com. But if you want to watch the video, then scroll all the way down.

What will you see? This:

Goldfrapp_Caravan_Girl_vide.jpg

Apparently, the video was directed by Dougal Wilson at Colonel Blimp. But that hasn't been confirmed by the production's site yet.

What's different about the video? Everything.

First off - it seems most Goldfrapp fans have this strong, passionate expectation to expect the unexpected from this band. I mean, who would've thought the band would release a video that was so American that it doesn't resemble any shred of Goldfrapp DNA of past videos - namely Alison herself. The video is sans Alison - visually - and really a typical video. That's the surface review.

On the flip side, because the video is so American it might get more video rotation on music cable nets. I know that sounds crazy but that was the immediate feeling I got when I first viewed it. It also felt like I was watching a commercial for some clothier or perfumer like Calvin Klein or Abercrombie & Fitch or Billabong.

So for Goldfrapp fans, its a video that is somewhat left to be desired. For other people who have no idea who Goldfrapp is, this video is perfect for them... especially for you sk8ter girls out there.

Seriously, they should've gone all out and did some "Girls of Summer" type of video. That would've at least made some people forgive the band for a milisecond before saying the things I just wrote above. Or better yet, held a contest for fans to produce a video. Why not? It can still happen. I hope the band would at least consider an alternate version of the "Caravan Girl" video by fans.

And then there's the "Caravan Girl" Maxi CD & 7". Here's the cover:

I listed the track listings in a previous post but just to refresh:

Maxi CD
1. Caravan Girl - Live Choral Version
2. Monster Love - Live Acoustic Version
3. Little Bird - Live at The Union Chapel (Video)

The live choral version sounded ok. Can't tell from just hearing it as a 15 second clip. I would imagine the live acoustic version of "Monster Love" will sound laid back. The video clip from their Union Chapel gig is the one that has most fans happy.

Now the 7" number picture disk has this track listing:

7" numbered picture disc
A. Caravan Girl
B. Little Bird - Animal Collective Remix

The Animal Collective remix is rhythmically challenged. I say that with all sincerity. I don't know what it is but Goldfrapp seems to have a penchant for off-the-wall, rhythmically challenging remixes thus far. I have to say, honestly, I don't like the Animal Collective remix from the clip I just heard. Its my least favorite from the Seventh Tree singles so far. Plus, looking at the tracklistings for the "Caravan Girl" Maxi makes me say why are you guys crapping out on this?

But, all in all I do appreciate the fact that the band and Mute released the video first on the band's site. Plus, I really enjoyed watching "Alison's Message to the Fans" clip that was circulated among the fan mailing list recipients.

I was busy and didn't post this three days ago. But here it is anyway. Every time I look at the "Caravan Girl" single cover, I can't help but think awe...Alison looks like she needs a hug.

**************************************************************
Just when you thought I could take a break from mentioning Goldfrapp this week, this info pops up. Notice that there is no official tracklisting yet. There better be an awesome b-side. C'mon Goldfrapp - unleash one of those other recordings that didn't make it on Seventh Tree!

"Caravan Girl" is the new single that will release June 30. Is it me or are these singles released a lot sooner than in previous releases? For the Seventh Tree era, these singles are coming out every other month - Feb was "A&E", April was "Happiness" and now June is "Caravan Girl". I predict that for August its either "Little Bird" or "Monster Love".

Here's the smashing artwork for "Caravan Girl"

BBC Radio 1's Big Weekend - Goldfrapp and Wing

This past weekend in the UK (Mote Park, Maidstone, Kent to be precise), BBC Radio 1 held its Big Weekend music festival. If you look carefully at the 2-day billing, you will notice a menagerie of different bands but still leans heavily towards indie guitar acts. There was a write-up from Reuters that kept popping up on various news sites and blogs and it just kept clogging up my inbox with the same crap about Goldfrapp vs. Madonna (aka Oldfrapp). Swear to God, every time those two are performing in the same festival there's always someone trying to write-up an imaginary feud. Funny how Reuters likes to perpetuate the myth.

Anyway, Madonna and Usher performed on Saturday - separately. Very interesting lineups. On Sunday, Goldfrapp performed on the main stage. If there's one thing you cannot fault Alison Goldfrapp for, its her desire to put on a great show - regardless if its in a festival environment or at a bonfire on the beach. They performed seven songs - "Strict Machine", "A&E", "You Never Know", "Satin Chic", "Number 1", "Caravan Girl", and "Happiness".

Now, it was during "Happiness" that there were dancers dressed up in those leafy outfits - the costumes that were featured in the "A&E" video (do not ask why they didn't dance during "A&E"). Near the very end of the song, Alison shouted out "In Time!" to the two dancers to her left. Apparently, they weren't dancing in time???

Ooohh but Sunday had another performer that I didn't know was at another tent. It was none other than New Zealand's own Wing. Remember Wing from that episode of "South Park" that featured the Awesome Talent Agency and Sly Stallone and the Chinese Mafia?

She sang "Dancing Queen", "Close to you", and "Candle in the Wind". She spared the crowd with her rendition of AC/DC's "Back in Black". I shit you not - she really did a cover of AC/DC songs. Jump here for her site. New Zealand's TV One News even did a segment on her growing popularity in the U.K.

Its times like this I wish I was living in the U.K.

Goldfrapp at The Beacon Theatre - *Complete w/wine & Fleeting Expletives*

The last time Alison Goldfrapp and band were in town, it was in support of Supernature and she cried while performing the song "Black Cherry". Last night, in lieu of tears we get a more fiesty, spirited Alison unlike what I had ever seen.

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29073.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

To open the show, Jaymay took the stage with her lone guitar and single spotlight shining above her. Most of the Goldfrapp ticketholders were still at the bar so half the theatre was empty. But for those who sat and stayed through the set, Jaymay performed in a lighthearted manner. She related banter in between songs and remained cheerful throughout her performance. The best way I can describe Jaymay's sound is something of a cross between Chan Marshall and Feist. Her songs are about lost loves, past loves, chance encounters and mean people. Bascially, her p.o.v. of NYC. I was disappointed that she didn't sing "Blue Skies" but it was an acoustic set and a nice, calm one at that. Honestly, the least the Beacon could do was add a couple more lights to her set.

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29009.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

After Jaymay thanked Goldfrapp for having her perform, the crowd cheered and she exited. Soon after, we begin hearing music from the soundtrack of the classic British horror The Wicker Man (the one that starred Edward Woodward & Britt Eckland).

The stage design was simple. Its the same setup seen so far at previous gigs. Wicker squares hung in the background to create a rough canvas for lighting & imagery. The roadies began setting up the maypole-like mic stand while a woman came out and set up a thermos and cup for Alison - she's currently staving off a cold.

At 9PM, the house lights dimmed and the crowd went nuts. All of a sudden, all the empty seats were beginning to fill up as patrons stumbled to their seats with drinks in hand. The band came on stage and the house cheered louder. As soon as Alison stepped on stage - the crowd in the orchestra section immediately stood up to give Alison a standing ovation and the rest of the house offered deafening cheers. Alison was definitely overwhelmed and she loved it. The band launched into "Paper Bag" from Felt Mountain, their first release.

I'm glad I finally got to see Alison play her melodica live. Pretty obvious that she retired the Theremin on this tour. But I'd rather watch her play with multiple instruments at this point. After "Paper Bag" Alison would drink from her cup in between songs to keep her cold at bay. She thanked the crowd and began to speak. She alerted the crowd that she and members of the band are overcoming a cold. The response from the crowd was "Awwwe poor baby" and "Alison its all good...We love you!" "A&E" was next and sadly, she didn't hit the "hiiiiiigh" part as strongly as she wanted it. It was obvious that the cold prevented her from going to her comfort level. Right afterwards, Alison said, "That was shit!" The crowd answered back, "It's all good!" and "Oh my God! Alison you are sexy!" A female patron kept screaming that about six times last night and she sat near me. The crowd was pretty good. If it weren't for the theatre being a seated theatre, the floor would've been jam packed. But I could tell that the crowd was itching for upbeat songs.

Next up was "Utopia". Davide's violin plucking signaled its entrance and Alison saved up her vocal magic for hitting these soaring operatic notes. It was spine tingling good. At that point, she wanted her cold to 'fuck off' and she hit her stride.

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29038.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

As you can see in the photo above, the lighting was sparse during "Utopia". In fact, the lighting was sparse during the first four songs until....

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29047.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

"Satin Chic". All of a sudden, it was as if someone pushed the 'jolt' button under our seats and we all went nuts. People got up, started chair dancing, ran down the aisles to dance. It was great. There was one spot in particular that got Alison's attention at front stage left. A whole bunch of people were dancing there and she acknowledged them. After the song, she said something like "I can see you!" to the audience when the bright white lights came on. I was a bit bummed that she didn't do too much of her rag doll, robot dancing. That would've been cool.

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29059.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

Now during "You Never Know" something wacky happened at the mixing board. Alison's vocals were starting to drown a bit near the end of the song when it hits that crescendo of violins & synths. In fact, Alison couldn't do that whatever-that-thing-she-does-with-her-vocals at the end. It was supposed to be this vocal acrobatic beauty it just got drowned. My "Alison sense" began to tingle. She was pissed. Next up was "Road to Somewhere" and this is where classic Alison takes on the monitor board guy.

During the song, there was feedback and waaay too much of the instrumentals. I seriously thought Alison was going to stop and walk off the stage. She was visibly pissed. She made one obvious hand signal to the mixer off stage and he still didn't level out her vocals. No, she didn't give him the finger (but I bet she wanted to - probably fantasized ripping his head off) but she really became animated in the middle of the song. She would've made a fine catcher on a baseball team with all those hand & arm signals. Right at the conclusion of the song, she made up some lines and took both hands to her face and covered her eyes. She then loudly pronounced, "FUCK!" right at the end of the last note of the song. And then Alison walked - walked? I mean STORMED - right over to the mixing board. Some patron shouted out "Holy shit!" which got the crowd to laugh. It was really funny seeing bassist Charlie Jones totally move out of his way to steer clear of Alison's wrath. While she was chewing the guy out, who by the way was taking her words with a grin on his face, the crowd began cheering.

Next up was "Eat Yourself". Quite fitting if you ask me! She especially sounded convinced that she needed to take a dose from her own lyrics after what transpired. Ahh, what's a Goldfrapp show without technical difficulty? Not a Goldfrapp show :) I wasn't sure if Will (the other half of the band) was at the show? Did anyone see him at all? Was he there?

Then came "Little Bird" with its jam-session ending. For whatever reason, that extended version didn't pack the punch I expected. Although, the imagery used certainly enouraged patrons to "smoke 'em if you got 'em".

Photo: Amanda Nanawa

This was the lull period of the set because next up was "Monster Love" and that really slowed heart rates down. BTW, "Cologne Cerrone Houdini" was performed earlier in the set. Just wanted to throw that out there.

As soon as the opening chords for "Number 1" started, the crowd got up, people ran down the aisles - again - and began dancing. The place was hopping.

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29051.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

Photo: Amanda Nanawa

After "Number 1" was "Strict Machine (We Are Glitter mix)". We were staying up and dancing. Hands were in the air, people were clapping and Alison & the band were into it. I want to mention Angie Pollock on keyboards and her hair was done up in fantastic braided fashion. Ruth Wall was on harp and keyboards and she made me laugh as she was totally into the groove during "Happiness". Davide Rossi was absolutely fantastic on violin and was totally lost in the music while playing the new Southern Bluegrass (or as Goldfrapp call it - hillbilly) version of "Ooh La La". Alex Lee. Oh my God Alex Lee. How many guitars do you have on this tour? He had more guitar changes than you can keep up. What a fantastic addition! And Ged Lynch took over drumming duties for this tour and brings a different spark to the sound. And I mentioned Charlie Jones before but I'll do it again! Charlie Jones on bass was great, as always.

When the band came out for their encore, Alison walked on stage with a glass of wine. She then said something like, "Well I thought I deserved some wine... Thank you, you're very kind." And the crowd approved. Little did we know that she was on her way tipsy-ville when the band launched into the hillbilly version of "Ooh La La".

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29067_CROPPED.jpg
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

Then they did "Caravan Girl" where Alison hit the high notes at the end, only to end it to improvise on other notes her vocals could hit at that point. At first I didn't notice but when she started playing with her pom poms on her dress between songs and walking not-so-sharp, I began to realize that Alison was getting a bit drunk. She eventually walked up to regard the front row and she stood there and stared for a bit. She finally snapped back to reality and started to talk a bit to the people at the front row.

The final encore song was "Happiness" and she was half-way drunk. She wasn't even dancing too well. She was walking back and forth from one end of the stage to the other and she ended up kinda doing this

Goldfrapp_Beacon_4_29069.JPG
Photo: Amanda Nanawa

She was waddling. Her arms shot straight up to the air like she was gasping for some more air to get her through the night.

The show ended and the crowd still wanted more but Alison bade a very enthusiastic "Thank you" to the NY audience. She began offering high fives to all the people who came up to the edge of the stage. I was jealous. I wanted a high five. And she did it from one end of the stage to the other. It was remarkable. In fact, it was interesting that Alison was more chatty and open during this show than I can recall.

Again, it was a Goldfrapp night. Quite remarkable and always fun to watch.

NBC Rewind: Goldfrapp on Jay Leno

A whole lot of you seemed to have caught a very good looking woman in white dancing, marching and singing a song called "Happiness" on Leno Tuesday night.

Goldfrapp_Leno_2008b.jpg

Well, here's Goldfrapp!!!!!

Goldfrapp_Leno_2008.jpg

I will have to say, Alison looked much better on Leno the second time around. She looked loose, happy and bouncy. I was hoping she would sing "Happiness" on the show, considering that the lyrics fit perfectly to the SoCal lifestyle.

BTW - She looked reeeeeally good on HD.

NOTE: Goldfrapp are on KCRW today. Catch 'em if you can (like a Pokemon).

This Happiness Thing... is Quite Viral

There's a microsite that recently went up. Its tied to the upcoming single release of "Happiness" from Goldfrapp's Seventh Tree. But first, watch this spaced-out video that features a monkey and what I believe is a replica of the DeLorean from Back to the Future.

Jump here for that microsite. I have no idea what the outcome will be. Its all quite mysterious.

That Bouncing Man in the White Suit (a.k.a. Goldfrapp's "Happiness" video)

So the video from Goldfrapp's latest single "Happiness" has made its TV airing in the UK.

For a looksee, catch a glimpse:

or if you prefer the version from MySpace TV without channel tattoos (and yet crappy audio)

Goldfrapp - Happiness

I really like the video and Alison & Will getting to dress up and having some fun in character.

**UPDATE as of 4/6/08**
The video was directed by Dougal Wilson (who also worked on the "A&E" video). Interesting that no one at Mute wanted to confirm or share that info when asked about a week ago. Go visit Colonel Blimp's site for the director's comment on what the video was based on (apparently, Peter Wolf's video of "Come as You Are" was also inspired by the same MGM musical).

And contrary to what Pitchfork wrote, the video was not shot in one take. Really.

"Monster Love" - Goldfrapp vs. Spiritualized Remix

Plus... "Eat Yourself" (Yeasayer Remix)

Jump here to listen to the snippets.

There is also mention about those limited collector's 7" slipcases & CD collector's box.

Metronomy's Remix of Goldfrapp's "Happiness" Feat. The Teenagers

Well, one member of The Teenagers.

I gave it a listen and comparing it so far from Rex the Dog's rejected remix, its different. Not much of a dance remix (which is probably what Goldfrapp is trying to steer clear from). It's helter skelter rhythm suggests confusion in a "la-de-da" state of mind.

Jump here to listen to the fuss.

Apparently there are two versions floating around. Jump here to try and hear the other version (its shorter by a couple seconds and doesn't have Alison's vocals at the end).

Goldfrapp on Jay Leno - April 22, 2008

As first cited by Pitchfork, Goldfrapp will indeed make a stop over at the lovely (actually not) Burbank studios and pay a visit to Jay Leno. Remember last time the band performed on Jay Leno? Remember who the guests were on the show? One of them was Simon Cowell. Who remembers that awkward moment at the very end of the show when guests are supposed to shake hands with Jay and each other? Who remembers that weird exchange between Simon & Alison? I do. So did my mom, my brother and the rest of the US fans.

And while in L.A., they stop by the studios of KCRW and will jam on "Morning Becomes Eclectic" the next day.

And check out this promo video that Pitchfork posted. Alison & Will are once again featured in the fox & leaf people outfits. If you're high, then don't watch it yet. Ok? Because it may freak you out when you see a fox sipping tea.

Goldfrapp Gets Spoofed by Rex the Dog

Well, maybe spoof is too strong a word to use in this case. Maybe tribute is the best word? When I first saw this video, I was crackin' up all over the place. I just couldn't stop laughing.

It turns out that Seventh Tree has made Gold status in the UK. Wow. Quite an achievement for an album Alison thought no one would care to buy. You see, leaks do seem to work.

Anyway, back to Rex the Dog... so it turns out that the second single will be "Happiness" and will be released April 17th on CD, LCD, 7" picture disk and download.

Here's the cover art for the "Happiness" single:

Can any of you make out what she's doing? I thought Alison is trying to show off her aerobic skills. But I could be wrong.

So here are the track listings:

CD
1. Happiness - Single version
2. Road To Somewhere Acoustic Version

Maxi CD
1. Happiness - Beyond The Wizards Sleeve Re-animation
2. Monster Love - Goldfrapp vs. Spiritualized
3. Eat Yourself - Yeasayer Remix

7" picture disc
A. Happiness - Single version
B. Happiness - Metronomy Remix Featuring The Teenagers

Yeah, you read that right - Spiritualized as well as The Teenagers, Brooklyn's Yeasayer and Beyond the Wizards Sleeve. But no Rex the Dog. As it turns out, their remix of "Happiness" was rejected. Thus, this video came about:

Coincidentally, Spiritualized will release their forthcoming album Songs in A&E (get it *wink*) on May 26. So it makes perfect sense for Goldfrapp fans to buy the new Spiritualized album. Cross-promotion is a beautiful thing, especially if its from another top notch band like Spiritualized.

As for The Teenagers, I totally dig that t-shirt that says, "Being a teenager is not a crime" with two horses running on opposite ends of the shirt. Beautifully tacky.

I like Yeasayer for the sheer fact that on their MySpace page, they say that their influence is Enya with Balls. Yeah.

Seventh Tree's Package Has Some "Tit"ilating Stuff Inside

By now, you should be so sick and tired of me blogging about this album. But, I can't stop talking about it since I've been hypnotized by the sheer power of Alison & Will's music and those damn tits she drew inside the cd jewel case (artwork behind the cd). Oh, and not just tits, but tits and very graphic below-the-waist sketch. You do have to admit, Alison can draw. Wonderful piece of artwork. Its a theme, though. Remember on the cover of Supernaturewhat she's surrounded by? It was a forest of dicks. So now the universe is balanced (art-wise).

Goldfrapp Performs on T4

Highlights from performances - Alison performing barefoot and wearing that pirate hat. Puffy blouses do seem to be the prevailing theme as most of the live band members are sporting that look. She does wear the color spotted one-piece catsuit that we see her sporting in her short film snippets.

Enjoy!

Seventh Tree Trailer on Amazon UK site

I hate how Amazon - UK or other countries - doesn't allow their player to be embedded on other sites. They obviously want to horde all kinds of traffic this way. Bastards.

Goldfrapp on Jo Whiley's Live Lounge

Chances are some of you missed last Friday's show. I was on the road to Philly heading for a meeting so this was somewhere in the back of my mind. Goldfrapp paid a visit to BBC Radio1's Jo Whiley Live Lounge to perform "A&E" and a cover of Grace's "Not Over Yet" (or if you prefer Klaxons' cover of "It's Not Over Yet" - same song). With the release of Seventh Tree looming and the "A&E" single release Feb 11 (UK)/ Feb 12 (US), this is a nice warm-up to the impending offical album release.

Goldfrapp-livelounge.jpg

If you feel you must have this gem, visit the Goldfrapp fan site and you will find your answers (and more!) there.

Jo Whiley said a funny thing during the interview where she admitted that she was listening to Seventh Tree while getting a facial at a spa. Interestingly, some months ago I've noticed several visits to my blog where someone from a spa in the UK was visiting my site and stayed on for quite a while. I thought to myself, "who the hell is reading my blog from the spa?" I will assume it was Jo. I hope she enjoyed what she read.

Mr. Boogie TV Covers Goldfrapp's "A&E"

The song hasn't officially hit the streets and we already have a cover. Check it out!

Mr. Boogie TV did a great job on a song that isn't quite easy for male singers to try and hit. Plus, he has a soothing voice that fits the song. Makes you wanna go, "ahhhhhh".

Goldfrapp's "A&E" Video

**Updated** 2/2 Video Re-Posted on Colonel Blimp's Site

Colonel Blimp's site has re-posted the video to Dougal Wilson's videography. I HIGHLY suggest you watch it from their site. Its a very nice, clean playback vs. what's on YouTube.

No blowbacks this time. Mute Finally posted the video:

Now I can safely write this...

After watching the video, I've noticed several times that Alison was doing some Jesus posing. The video is so understatedly simple, and yet its laced with a lot of symbolism from fairy tale/fantasy, religion and paganism. Sure its cool to see Alison's legs (which seem to get skinnier by the months?) and bushes and leaves dancing in not-so-awesome choreography. But if you look past that nonsense, you can get the sense that this is more about a woman trying - in her delusional state - to mend a broken relationship. I love the ending. That's the best part. Will makes a rare appearance in a Goldfrapp video. I think the last time Will was in a Goldfrapp video was waaaay back in the Felt Mountain era for the "Pilots" video.

***Week of 1/7***
I had to unpublish this post earlier today when Mute started deleting threads from Goldfrapp's official message board site. Strangely, it was Mute late last year that mentioned that marketing for this album would be focused primarily online because its such a departure from Supernature; that it required "a certain degree of discovery and word-of-mouth". So far, Mute hasn't handled the viral marketing part too well. Instead of creating positive vibes from fans surrounding the impending release, fans get censored or get their threads deleted.

Mute is in fact doing a great job at kicking Goldfrapp fans in the ass and taking the ruler and slapping it across virtual hands of Goldfrapp fans for posting links to sites that have started the leaks. Fans are starting to get a bad taste in their mouth right now. Who knows what kind of viral marketing Mute had in mind? The band (and perhaps the label) was nervous to get fan reaction on Seventh Tree. But now that we're nearing the home stretch, Mute/EMI has to be thinking "How do we capitalize on these leaks? What can we do to get the general public really into this new Goldfrapp album?" Well for starters, PLEASE STOP PUNISHING THE FANS. And by fans, I mean those people who spend a fraction of their time on the band's message board and actually post things and don't lurk. Those are the people who give a shit about the band. I kinda feel for the moderator of the site because they have to delete those threads that were sources of the leak. In hindsight, the "A&E" video should never had been posted on Colonel Blimp's site until January 13th. It was part of their news section and for them, it definitely looked like a SNAFU. Now that the video (and this post) has been cached on search engine servers, Mute/EMI will need to live with the fact that there is a good review written so far from Pitchfork.

Care what I think of the video? Its a video that is so simple yet loaded with symbolism. I'll leave it at that.

My Google Alert was right on the money today! Click here to catch a glimpse of Goldfrapp's video to "A&E", their first single off of Seventh Tree. The video is set to premiere on Channel 4 UK, January 13.

The video was directed by Dougal Wilson. And the production house is Colonel Blimp.

Goldfrapp "Seventh Tree" Album Artwork **Official**

Behold...Puffy blouses make a comeback.

SeventhTree_album_art.jpg

And opinions are flying already on the Goldfrapp message board.

You can listen to the single "A&E" on Goldfrapp's MySpace page.

After listening to the official mastered version of "A&E", the only difference from the leaked version was that its rhythm is slightly slower and Alison's vocals are crystal clear. I seriously hear the lyrics and as thought, the song is heartbreaking.

As for the cover, I like it. Its not meant to please everyone but this is what Alison and Will want to present. Seventh Tree is pastoral yet steeped in some form of horror. Check out the latest interview that was scanned by one of the many hawk-eyed Goldfrapp fans. The album cover reflects oversimplicity and yet, your eyes end up staring back at a broody looking Alison Goldfrapp. The look she's giving is either 1.) F*^k off; or 2.) A lot has happened in my life, wanna hear it on "Seventh Tree"?

Goldfrapp doesn't mean to weed out their own fan base ("Supernature" fans vs. fans prior to "Supernature"). But like I mentioned before on my previous blog entry (I think the one that's cached on search engines and no longer on my blog), this album will get them more fans. Its sensible pop/folk music that is still accessible and yet decidedly Goldfrapp.

Goldfrapp "A&E" and 2008

Apparently, the world is checking online what this new Goldfrapp album sounds like. As we get closer to 2008, Alison & Will have been talking to several journos about the new album. Go to Arjan's blog site to read some revealing thoughts.

And here's a teaser interview from this blog that will feature a full interview in a German magazine come February. Its funny how the interview was translated from German to English so you will see some misspelled words.

Plus, if you really want to listen to the new single "A&E", you'll just have to hear it on BBC Radio via the web. It seemed to have been removed from YouTube since it was found a couple of days ago.

Having a Goldfrapp Christmas

This message was first sent to fans last week. Since then, fans have shared it, ripped it, uploaded its video on several sites and have blogged about it (like what I'm doing now).

Merry Christmas and enjoy Goldfrapp's X-Mas tune and video!

Goldfrapp's "A&E" Single and New Website Goodies

That Goldfrapp. They certainly know how to spring a surprise on their fans. Earlier this week, their site gave a sneak peek of the track "Clowns". The song is no longer on the site. The sneak peek ended some time yesterday - I assume midnight GMT.

AandElowres.jpg

And I get an email today that BBC Radio 1's Jo Whiley Show will exclusively play the first single "A&E" on Monday, Dec 17 during their regular show hours. But don't fret. The song will eventually make its way to Goldfrapp's MySpace music player. Its fitting that Jo Whiley gets an exclusive on airing the song. Last time, Goldfrapp did an acoustic session that featured a beautiful unplugged version of "Fly Me Away" and their kick ass cover of Ordinary Boys' "Boys WIll Be Boys".

Thus far, almost all music mags have stayed in line with describing the forthcoming release as "unplugged" or "acoustic". Pretty much all true. As soon as February rolls in and you listen to all the tracks, you can picture their live sets to be very mellow and "unplugged".

And check out the Goldfrapp site. Its creepy in a Blair Witch meets The Ring vibe. The site now has a new loop and its just as sublime and gorgeous as the previous one.

Mute's Official Response to the Seventh Tree Leak

Out of respect, I have unpublished my write up based on the leak that surfaced on many emails yesterday. I do hope that site that had the file has done the same. Unfortunately, a search engine's caching system has not purged the blog. I have no control over the caching of any search engine. Just my blog.

Here's Mute's official response:

Mute response to illegal downloads of Goldfrapp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We really appreciate people’s enthusiasm for the new album but we would hope that Goldfrapp fans will resist their obvious temptation to download or fileshare Seventh Tree and will respect the band’s wishes and wait for the official unveiling of the album.

Alison and Will have put their heart and soul into creating Seventh Tree (and everything that will accompany it over the coming months), so it's hugely disappointing to find that someone has selfishly (and illegally) put unofficial versions of their songs online so far ahead of release.

Once again please respect Goldfrapp and do what you can to prevent this spreading further.

Guardian Unlimited Gives a Quickie on the New Goldfrapp Album

Straight from the Guardian Unlimited's website:

"...in are a 17th-century steel-string harp and a toy organ. For their fourth album, Seventh Tree - a follow-up to the 2005 album Supernature, and due to be released next February - the band Goldfrapp have gone folk. Singer Alison Goldfrapp and her writing partner Will Gregory used the harp and the organ to record the album in a 1960s bungalow in Bath...."

Follow this link to get the full story. I like the part where Alison mentions dancers galloping around a maypole. How very...fertile. After reading, I'm actually not at all surprised by that sound. Goldfrapp kinda gave hints via remixes and on some interviews where Alison revealed what she was listening to while on tour. At one point during their CA stint, she admitted she was listening to the Beach Boys. Try listening to their remix of The Flaming Lips' "The W.A.N.D. Supernaturalistic Remix" and you get the hint.

The band will reveal to fans very soon the sounds off the forthcoming release, Seventh Tree. Yay!

On another note, the band's MySpace page was updated with more info regarding the slight mistake on one of the tracklistings and confirmed release dates. Also confirmed is the first single, "A&E", which will be available on CD & vinyl February 11 while a digital download version will become available February 3.

Here are the confirmed tracklistings with correct titles:

1. Clowns
2. Little Bird
3. Happiness
4. Road To Somewhere
5. Eat Yourself
6. Some People
7. A&E
8. Cologne Cerrone Houdini
9. Caravan Girl
10. Monster Love

The album will release in the UK February 25 and in the US February 26 2008.

Goldfrapp Tracklisting - CONFIRMED!

I can't believe I screamed like a little girl when I got this email a few minutes ago. I can't type fast enough...

Must post this now...

Straight from their blog posting on MySpace:

...here is the FULL OFFICIAL track listing for Seventh Tree exclusively for you.

1. Clowns
2. Little Birds
3. Happiness
4. Road To Somewhere
5. Eat Yourself
6. Some People
7. A&E
8. Cologne Cerrone Houdini
9. Caravan Girl
10. Monster Love

The blog went on to say that the official artwork isn't ready yet but will be soon (maybe next month). And Alison and Will ask us not to be afraid of clowns. Or at least, don't be afraid of Alison's sexy clown.

OMG! Does this mean that we will see sexy clown dancers on stage with her during her tour? Wow. If so, then she will have successfully turned my perception of clowns upside down. Clowns, owls... what's next?

Alison Goldfrapp + Owl = Super Hot!

I just want to say... Take a look at this pic!

It looks like Mute and Goldfrapp are banking on blogs like mine to get the word out. Well guess what Mute/Goldfrapp marketing machine? Its working. I'm counting the days when I get the chance to hear all the tracks next month. Woo hoo!
