A Kinda, Sorta Top 10 List
1

It's always a challenge and a bit frustrating to come up with the inevitable top 10 list at this time of year because this is when I am faced with just how many worthwhile films haven't opened in Orlando yet or how many were here for such a short time that I missed them somehow. But probably the biggest factor of all is that the majority of the so-called pedigreed, award-contending titles all get released at year end. And with late entry deadlines for the Florida Film Festival hitting in mid-November for shorts and December 5 for features, I'm literally drowning in submissions and have no time whatsoever to go out to theaters to see the latest and greatest.

So for the curious out there, here is my annual double list: favorites for 2008 from anything I saw in theaters or at festivals during the calendar year (but possibly not yet in commercial release), as well as a list of viewing priorities once life gets back to semi-normal (possibly mid-February sometime!). Both lists are in alphabetical order only, not in order of preference.

Top 10

1) The Band's Visit
2) The Dark Knight
3) The Good, The Bad, The Weird
4) Let the Right One In
5) Man on Wire
6) Slumdog Millionaire
7) Still Walking
8) WALL-E
9) Waltz With Bashir
10) Young @ Heart

10 on the Must-See List

1) A Christmas Tale
2) The Curious Case of Benjamin Button
3) Frozen River
4) Gran Torino
5) In Bruges
6) Milk
7) Rachel Getting Married
8) Revolutionary Road
9) Vicky Cristina Barcelona
10) Wendy and Lucy

Happy Holidays everybody!
