September Slam

Still catching up after two weeks virtually back to back away in Toronto and NYC, and apparently I missed a kick-ass FilmSlam a couple of Sundays ago. With well over 100 local film lovers in attendance, the September program included a total of eight films and evidently, two real good docs among them. 1st Place Audience Award honors (gving the filmmaker a "bye" into December's Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase) went to Kevin Blosser's SKUNK APE: THE LEGEND OF THE FLORIDA EVERGLADES, a doc that looks at the search for the elusive (and reportedly stinky) Bigfoot of the South. 2nd Place honors go to Elizabeth Anne and Palin Perez Jackson's PALIN PEREZ JACKSON:1973, a doc about a New York artist now motivating the art scene in Orlando. And 3rd Place went to Craig Calamis and Danny Bellini's wise-guy drama, A MORBID PRAYER. Congratulations to all the participating filmmakers, and we'll see you for FilmSlam #10 on October 12.
