Believe it or not, this Friday, November 20 is the third landmark to hit of the various submisssion deadlines for Shorts and Features for the upcoming 19th edition of the festival April 9 - 18. Our late deadline for Shorts looms just 48 hours from now, while our brand spanking new late-late extended deadline for all you Without a Box-ers out there allows for yet one more week of post-production or procrastination (or both) until November 27 (the day after Turkey day). But NOW is finally the time to send in your short film if it’s complete and ready to go. The Friday, 11/20, date is actually a postmark deadline so we can receive a bulk of submissions by the middle of next week, so go ahead and get your entry in transit this weekend and you’ll be fine. Hard to believe it’s that time already, but here we are again. As of this past weekend, the 19th Annual Florida Film Festival (April 9 - 18, 2010) is officially open for submissions and Call for Entries are ready for action. April may seem like a long ways away, but before you know it, deadlines are hitting and you’re rushing to overnight your entry and filling FedEx’s pockets in late Fall. So relax, take your time, and consider submitting by the early entry deadline for a change. For all American independent and international films, the submission deadlines are the following:
Shorts - October 23 (early), November 20 (late, additional fee required)
Features - November 6 (early), December 11 (late, additional fee required)
New this year, an exclusive Extended Without a Box deadline may be possible but that’s still in the works as I write this. Remember that the FFF is accredited by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and the Festival’s Grand Jury Award winner for Best Narrative Short will automatically qualify for entry into the Live Action Short category of the following year’s Academy Awards.
