It may have taken a while, but at long last the 2010 restoration of Fritz Lang's METROPOLIS--the most influential of all silent films--will get a theatrical showing in Central Florida this Saturday, November 13, 11:30 AM at Enzian. This astounding new version of Lang's visionary sci-fi masterpiece includes 25 minutes of newly discovered , digitally restored footage. By some miracle, a near-complete cut of the original film was found in Buenos Aires in 2008. The subsequent reconstruction of the film represents both one of the most significant film restoration projects in cinema history and perhaps the cinematic event of the year. You don't want to miss this one chance to see METROPOLIS on the big screen in the most complete version since its Berlin premiere in 1927!
As A.O. Scott wrote in The New York Times..."A masterpiece of visionary silent cinema...one of the strangest, most fascinating films ever made, a futuristic nightmare that is both sublime in its grandeur and remarkably intimate in its emotions. Just about every science-fiction movie you can think of pays tribute to its influence, but to date none has matched its strangeness or its prophetic power."
