It's nice to be called out once in a while for helping make our community and Central Florida a better, more cultured place to live. This just came down the wire recently:

The Enzian Theater of Maitland, Florida, was selected for the 2010-2011 Outstanding Community Service Award of the William MacArthur International Affairs Awards Program. The Enzian is being recognized for the unique contribution it makes by programming international films and special series dealing with global regions and issues.

Thanks to the Global Perspectives Office at the University of Central Florida for this honor. We try our best around here to work within our single screen limitations, and I guess 165 films from 25 countries in the 2010 Florida Film Festival, along with films like THE WHITE RIBBON from Germany, A PROPHET from France, THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO and its sequel, THE GIRL WHO PLAYED WITH FIRE, from Sweden and Denmark, Oscar-winner THE SECRET IN THEIR EYES from Argentina, and the upcoming THE SECRET OF KELLS from Ireland and MICMACS and COCO CHANEL & IGOR STRAVINSKY from France are the type of offerings they're looking for. Our summer Opera on Film series from Italy and Austria, Cult Classics like THE CITY OF LOST CHILDREN (France) and the forthcoming RUN LOLA RUN (Germany) and Bucket List Brunch film THE SEVEN SAMURAI (Japan), South Asian Film Festival, and Central Florida Jewish Film Festival probably didn't hurt either.
