Music and games of skill and luck were the bomb this weekend as Sunday afternoon's FilmSlam produced its highest turnout of the year so far. Nearly 160 local indie film lovers came out to show their support for the filmmakers in the 7-film program, a great sign as the Summer heads into Fall. And with submissions officially open for the 2010 Florida FIlm Festival (Florida Film Festival), the monthly FilmSlam Audience Award winners take on even more significance since they can earn a film an automatic bye into December's Brouhaha Film & Video Showcase. In turn, once a film's in Brouhaha, it will be eligible to be picked by a jury of industry professionals for a "Best of Brouhaha" program that will serve as the Shorts section of the Florida Sidebar in next April's Florida Film Festival. So one good turn can most definitely lead to another for our in-state indie filmmakers.
Congratulations go out to Chris Greider, Matt Hutchens, and Matt Tinley for their music video for the song, "World on Fire," by the band, Luna Halo, which earned 1st Place in the audience polling. Kudos also to 2nd Place winner Roberto Rosaly's THE LAST SHOT, a drama about two soccer players at a crossroads in their careers, and Kenny Heidt's THE FATALIST, a poker drama that took 3rd Place.
Remember that FilmSlam generally takes place the second Sunday of the month at 1:00 PM, so mark your calendars for September 13 and come out and be a part of something special.
