I should've known better. The Curtis jinx strikes again, as reliable as getting on the cover of Sports Illustrated or that Madden Football video game. A week ago I blogged about how good the Tampa Bay Rays were, what great playoff position they were in heading down the home stretch of the baseball season, and what an amazing story it was. Since that time they've lost 5 out of 6 games (gee--just like the Twins), including 2 out of 3 to the Yankees at home (where they have/had?) the best record in the league, and 3 out of 3 up here in Toronto. That's right...swept (gee--just like the Twins) by the Blue Jays in the most painful manner imaginable: two 1-run games, including a 1-0 loss today, and a walk-off Grand Slam with two outs in the bottom of the 9th off their closer. Ouch!
They should still be a lock for at least the Wild Card, but the Red Sox must be getting a whole lot closer for that division lead (I haven't seen a Sports section in days). As Michael Stipe once said, SORRY...
