With summer drawing ever closer, one of Enzian's most beloved special programs from 2008 returns by popular demand. Not only is it back, but it's bigger, better, and more international than ever as this season we go beyond the La Scala walls. Once again Enzian is partnering with Emerging Pictures to bring the best in high definition opera from around the world to Central Florida, with an increase in both the number of programs and screening times. Operas that are being broadcast are coming from a prestigious selection of world renowned venues including La Scala, the Salzburg Festival, the Bolshoi at L’Opera de Paris, and the Teatro Regio (Parma). All of the operas will be screened at a 12 noon matinee on either Saturday or Sunday, and then 5 of the 6 will have an encore screening within 48 hours on Monday night at 8 PM.

The impressive lineup of titles builds from 1 in June to 2 in July to 3 in August. Check it out for yourself:

June 13 & 15 - Verdi's DON CARLO
July 5 & 6 - Mozart's DON GIOVANNI
July 19 & 20 - Verdi's RIGOLETTO
August 1 (only) - Verdi's OTELLO (conducted by Riccardo Muti)
August 15 & 17 - Dmitri Tcherniakov's EUGENE ONEGIN (based on the classic novel by Aleksandr Pushkin)
August 29 & 31 - Charles Gounod's ROMEO ET JULIETTE (with stage direction by Bartlett Sher, winner of this year's Tony award for Best Director - Musical for his revival of "South Pacific")

Series Passes, individual tickets, and general info are all available at the Enzian website, www.enzian.org.

Can you beat this? Tomorrow Enzian opens one of best documentaries of recent years and certainly one of the greatest (and funniest and most touching) rock docs ever, ANVIL! THE STORY OF ANVIL. And yet here we are, announcing the expanded summer season of opera broadcasts. You gotta love it...
