Defending McDonalds?
McDonalds must be concerned about the upcoming release of Morgan Spurlock's "Super Size Me", a doc that follows the director's month-long adventures in eating only fast food for three meals daily. The corporation revamped its menu recently, killing the Super Size menu and denying that the movie had an impact on their decision. Late last week, I was contacted by a publicist representing James Glassman of TechCentralStation.com, a self-described "science, technology, health and public policy magazine" backed by a Washington D.C. think tank (the American Enterprise Institute), a conservative political/P.R. firm (DCI Group), and sponsored by a number of well-known corporations (see list below). She touted a new article by Glassman that calls Spurlock "a big con man" and brands the movie "an outrageously dishonest and dangerous piece of self-promotion." That article, which has already been reprinted in many newspapers around the country, is one of many published by the site that has risen to the defense of McDonalds over the years. A few years back, in an article entitled "Hand's Off My French Fries", writer James Freeman said about McDonald's meals: "Pound for pound, dollar for dollar, it is the greatest food in the world." TechCentralStation.com is published by a firm (DCI Group) whose website boasts its strategic approach to defending its corporate clients and is sponsored by AT&T, ExxonMobil, General Motors Corporation, Intel, Microsoft, Nasdaq, National Semiconductor, PhRMA, Qualcomm, and...McDonalds.

McDonalds panicking and gettin.
http://www.media.mcdonalds.com/secured/news/pressreleases/2004/Press_Release05052004c.html

Am I the only one who noticed that the press release from McDonalds quoting Spurlock's e-mail to them started with a quote (“McDonald’s is committed to the healthy future of America”) that WAS NOT in the e-mail?
Do we not even notice the outright lies now?

Well, I can say a lot of things about McDonalds that I don't like, but, uh...
it's in there. Towards the end. Look again.

always thought myself an optimist...not quite 'pollyanna,' but i believe in hope and goodness in our hearts and i feel, most of the time, that we human monkeys would help each other given the choice betwixt 'hurt' or 'help.' but, i'm starting to think, why are so many ppl who are well-intentioned, i.e. saving each other physically, defending the dwindling natural resources we have which megacorp$ destroy to sell more burgers/products/etc etc yadda yadda...why are we so hellbent on saving people who advocate mcgarbage & it's corresponding status quo? as someone on another post said, survival of the fittest ensures that these ppl will die young and hopefully not propagate...and, tho harsh, i think that's really the only way our race will survive...if the whackadoos and ninnies who think McShit and McProduct and McPackage your Soul were all to die before reproducing, we'd get around to saving our spinning mudball that much quicker. :-)

What a bunch of delusional nonsense. How about a little self control. One "brave man" gets the noble idea to protect the poor public and crusade against the "machine" that seeks to destroy us all. GIVE ME A BREAK!!! Eat 5000+ calories of food from anywhere and see how healthy you are. "Look at me, I've made such a bold statement. I'm Morgan Spurlock. Aren't I brave?" Just like the parents of those fat kids, he's looking for some easy money, by going for the deepest pockets he can find. Yeah, americans eat to much. How about a little excercise, yeah how about that? Quit complaining and blaming other people. Noone force feeds you. You do it to your own, fat self. If you want to crusade why don't you do it against smokers? They push their unhealthy habit on anyone in the vicinity. The bottom line is this: Noone makes you eat 5000+ calories a day. If you do, you had better be a seriously hard worker, or ready to have some serious health problems. If you still want to eat that much you are a fool and soon to be a drain on the taxpayers. Get off your "high horses" and look in the mirror if you want someone to blame. Take a little responsibility for yourself.

Well we need to stop this Noone guy!

Excuse me. "No one force feeds you." And "No one makes you eat 5000+ calories a day."

Maybe we should blame it on TV, because it is the means by which we subject ourselves to clever and enticing ad campaigns,Perhaps there shouldnt be any addicitve corporate commercial breaks. I think It is a half and half responsibilty of the coporation and consumer, and it would be alot easier to manage and not be sucked into binging, over spending or shopping compulsivly if slogan after jingle after greasy feasts, and sexy models werent being shoved down our throats. Nobody is force feeding us or making us eat 5000 calories a day but its hard not to get sucked in, plus it would be alot nicer if corporations were making ad campaigns that were for the good of the people. Its not hard to offer healthier food, without going bankrupt. So unplug your TVs and go exercise ok everyone.

I ate at McDonald's and I feel sick from the fatty grease.

I stopped eating at McDonald's 8 months ago. It's not just McDonald's it is all fast food. Occaisonally, I have eaten fast food during the last three months and without fail it makes me throw up. I can't imagine the long term effects of all the chemicals we are consuming in our food (even ready made food bought at a supermarket), cleaning supplies, clothing, and air conditioning systems everyday. Truth is, no one knows what health everyone will be in as these chemicals haven't been consumed in all ways by so many people for very long. We wonder why we have all of these cancers and diseases but we trust ourselves to companies that do not care about humanity. McDonalds and fast food are just a small percentage of the problem. Even electromagnetic waves are cancerous. Research some things people, become active in the things that do matter. The point of the movie isn't just to get people to stop eating at McDonald's, it is to realize that ignoring a problem doesn't make it go away.

McDonald's is no more to blame than the countless companies that wish to sell an 'experience' that consumers will return for. Tobacco and alcohol are shamelessly marketed and both are drugs. Food? Hardly a drug, but when loaded with sodium, sugar and fats for palatibility, you can bet the public returns. People need to educate themselves on nutrition and remember that ultimately, nobody but themselves can either help or harm them in this situation. The 60% obesity rates are not blood solely on the hands of fast food chains. People put in their mouths what they like. Not what's healthy for them. That is where the problem lies.

When my son was between 3 and 4 years old his grandparents brought him a kids "McShitken" nugget meal almost every day. Well, It was nice for a while. My son developed some liver problems which resulted in him going to Sick Kids hospital where they did a number of tests including a biopsy. After finding no reasonable cause for the excessively high levels in his liver, I came to the conclusion that McDonalds might be the problem. He returned to great health about 3 months after he stopped comsuming McDonalds.I didn't think about his problems until I saw the movie and it brought back bad memories. I still have the blood and liver test results and will post them on the Internet soon. I'll also will send a copy for Morgan's site. Good luck all - and consume McDonalds in moderation (for me that's never).
Regards,
John

I'm so happy that Mc D finally is exposed on the BIG Screen! Millions of Americans and people worldwide brainwashed by US junk food co's are thinking now! And I hope this is the beginning of the end of huge US corporate greed sucking the lil' guy and poisoning everything on the planet with total irresponsibility.

What a bunch of cry babies and fanatics, it seems only fitting that this forum should turn into an advertisement.
