John Cameron Mitchell emailed today to hype his upcoming benefit in support of the freedom to marry. The event is set for Wednesday, April 28th at 8 p.m. at CROBAR, the new club in West Chelsea. Performers at the event will include John Mitchell, Sandra Bernhard, Margaret Cho, Alan Cumming, Bob Mould, Sleater-Kinney, Le Tigre, and Penny Arcade.

"As a minister of the Universal Life Church," JCM wrote in the email, "I've actually married two couples--one straight and one gay--and I'd like the opportunity to do more (maybe i can charge and finally finance my damn sex movie!)."

The Reverend Mitchell is hinting at "a special guest or two." He'll also be DJing the after-party at the club (and is organizing the event with Josh Wood. "Come on out and help defeat the scared, mean people who aren't happy and don't want anyone else to be," he added in the message, "See ya there and please pass this around!"

The benefit will be in support of efforts in support of the freedom to marry in New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Tickets are on sale online for $40 for general admission and $125 for the special VIP access, which includes open bar, balcony viewing, and a meet & greet with the celeb cast.
