updated: letterman. oprah? LENO?!

Far be it from CBS to miss the chance to tout David Letterman’s late night show on the most watched TV program of the year, the Super Bowl. Makes sense. But, why would Jay Leno—the subject of countless recent cajoling by Letterman—sign on to promote a competitor? Was he actually in the room with Letterman for twenty second spot, folks wondered immediately on Twitter.

Well, shortly after the promo aired, tonight, Oprah tweeted: “Yes that was REAL D, J and me. Shot Tuesday nite in New York undercover at D’s studio.”

Oprah interviewed Leno on her own show recently, chatting about it after the program on her website.

UPDATE: Bill Carter, at the New York Times, has the inside story on how the spot came together—disguises and all.

sundance backstage: debra granik & sebsatian junger

I’ll start blogging from Sundance as the fest ends. One minute backstage with the two Grand Jury Prize winners at the Sundance Film Festival:

sneak peek: ready for “cold weather”

Am still two weeks away from Sundance, but already looking ahead to SXSW in March…

Among the movies I’m anxious to check out - so far - is Aaron Katz’s latest feature, “Cold Weather”. I was a big fan of Katz’ “Quiet City” and “Dance Party, USA,” both of which debuted at SXSW. His latest, among the first fest titles announced today, is described as the story of, “a former forensic science major and avid reader of detective fiction, who, after making a mess of his life in Chicago, returns to his hometown of Portland, Oregon. There, he, his sister Gail, and new friend Carlos become embroiled in something unexpected.”

After a recent stint in Brooklyn, Katz is moving to Pittsburgh soon. A still from “Cold Weather” is above and today he also sent me a link to a preview, which is available on the film’s website.
