proulx: the sore loser?

There's not much worse than a sense of entitlement...while I was certainly in favor of "Brokeback Mountain" for best picture last week (and I certainly don't feel "Crash" was a worthy winner), its unfortunate to see people like Annie Proulx (writer of the story that spawned "Brokeback"), offering such a bitter rant about the film not winning more Oscars. In a Guardian story yesterday, she wrote:

The people connected with Brokeback Mountain, including me, hoped that, having been nominated for eight Academy awards, it would get Best Picture as it had at the funny, lively Independent Spirit awards the day before. (If you are looking for smart judging based on merit, skip the Academy Awards next year and pay attention to the Independent Spirit choices.) We should have known conservative heffalump academy voters would have rather different ideas of what was stirring contemporary culture.

And that's just the tip of the iceberg...

I agree with eug about Proulx as the sore loser. I lost respect for her as I read her bilious, bitter screed about "Trash (Crash)". Where I come from, if you lose you congratulate the winner and shut up. Ang Lee, Larry Mcmurtry, and the entire cast have been either gracious or silent about losing - why did Ms. Proulx feel she had to vent publicly like this? It was pathetic, and unnecessary.
