What do the three recent Mel Gibson, Lindsay Lohan, and Lance Bass stories have in common? They remind us that the Internet is entirely now driving celebrity and entertainment news and gossip. Nothing earth-shattering here, but with everyone commenting about how quickly the Mel Gibson story exploded, its certainly worth noting.

Lance Bass was outed by gossip blogs and the mainstream outlets went with speculation as news, Lindsay's letter reprimanding her for hardy partying was leaked to The Smoking Gun and quickly picked up many outlets. By the time the Hollywood trades hit print on Monday, the Gibson incident felt like old news. AOL's TMZ.com got the story first and numerous industry journalists and bloggers tracked it with continual updates all weekend. Now, with Gibson acknowledging his anti-Semitic remarks today from rehab (in the wake of Disney saying it will still release his film, but kill his Holocaust miniseries on ABC), the story already feels like its run its course. Do we even need a teary Diane Sawyer with Gibson interview for closure?
