moore backlash?

jesuscampSM.jpgLate last month, indieWIRE covered the move by Magnolia Pictures to stop Michael Moore from showing "Jesus Camp" at his Traverse City Film Festival, run by the doc director. Magnolia acquired the film after it was already submitted to the fest, but worried that a screening at Moore's fest might taint the perception of the film, which they feel plays to both sides of the aisle.

According to today's Washington Post, the fest plans to go ahead with its sold out screenings of the movie against the wishes of the filmmakers and the distributor. There is a Hollywood Reporter story on the matter also available, via Reuters.

I am wondering if Magnolia has already accomplished their goal, distancing it from Michael Moore by simply raising the issue publicly, even if the film screens. Or, will their move alienate an important audience that they will need to support the film ultimately?

Howdy! I just saw "Jesus Camp" at the TC Film Festival today, so our community definitely ran with it. Kudos to for the TCFF for sticking up for it!
